There is some nice looking armor and weapons, but in most cases you just cant equip matching set of items, because they can look very differently, but offer good stats for same build. So you have to choose between appearance and efficiency.

I wonder why they set up the "transmog" system the way they did. If you can use MTX armor as the appearance, why not any armor? But idk I'm not a game dev, I have no clue what's going on in the code and all that.

If you have gotten everything in the diary from enemies to even materials then you likely lost connection to Steam right before gettin the achievement, this has been a problem since the game released, the game only checks once if you meet the requirement for unlocking said achievement, after that, from reloading the save file to playing a mission, nothing allows you to force the game to check if you meet the requirement to unlock X achievement. You are gonna need to use SAM ( steam achievement unlocker) to unlock said achievement as it seems its bugged.

Just to be sure, have you also gotten all Roland entries and those pink/purple diary entries that can be found in the campaign and in cities? those also count as far as im aware, you need to have everything unlocked.

IIRC, roland entries are irrelevant, as they are not in Lyria's field journal. If everything is indeed collect, then this should be the connection problem.

Yeah it's all clunkers, you will get players if you are good at the game or keep beating the snot out of the clunkers.

Clunkers are fun in this game.
