So, we still have to complete challenges to unlock gear instead of badges? *sigh* Here's an idea for you, Biome progression system needs to go. You should not have to do anything other than potentially FIND the item you need, or you LEARN how to build it via another ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ skill book. You can keep the dust storms, damage types, smoothies, and all that, but there's nothing wrong with having to find that last skill magazine, recipe, or loot the item directly; plenty of frustration and Joy in that little detail on its own. It's really not a hard concept for a game with an established identity that has been released officially not once, but TWICE, under the same premise of this identity, yes? You said it was time to deliver on all the promises that have been made over the years as well. Do you really think you're delivering on those promises by adding in more RPG/Live Service elements/mechanics to a game that has never needed them?
How about we just lean into making the game harder by creating more survival scenarios to navigate like randomly contracting the flu or a cold, which would cause your stealth, and stamina, to take a hit because there's a random cough sound that could alert nearby Zombies. Create a random roll for more intense rain storms that have the potential to knock down trees, and damage buildings, instead of this weird dust storm stuff always. Adding back in the negative status of being wet from those stormscould be tied to a chance of developing the cold/flu for up to 4 days, RNG determined, and provide another use for Honey/Antibiotics; also could add cough syrup to prevent the stealth hit. You could add a buff to the king size bed where sitting on top of it counts as the rest required to speed up healing and recovery where applicable. So, if players want to heal a broken bone, abrasion, concussion, what have you, quicker, and they don't have the items. They can then choose to lay in bed for the recovery buff and use their time to rest and heal, rather than loot/shoot/harvest. That's an overhaul that I'd really like to see, and it makes it seem a little more realistic or as realistic as Zombie Apocalypses can get anyway. My point is that there are ways to make the game more difficult while leaning into the established Identity, rather than adding in mechanics that feel like a departure, and make you look, oh so, cash grabby.
