You can't really use ships as roles anyway.

If you had an order to warp, as if they were docking at a station, so they wouldn't wait in the nearest sector and then be back with you when you go to that sector.

It would also help with the problem of them not getting too close behind you to pull cargo in front of you, which would then be pulled into the player.

You can set the distance, but it counts for all ships. However, if you want ships further back than others, that doesn't work because it randomly chooses which one is where, regardless of the type of ship, what weapons it has, or what task it's set to.

In your case, you would simply call the ship only when there's something it needs to pick up. However, ___ , you pick up everything until you're full. You would turn off your collection beam, eject all the items, fly away from some of the items, call the individual ship, and it would then collect it while, you continue mining. Before it bothers you, you could warp it away.

You can't really have fleet ships work as miners either. They also push the asteroids around with mining beams because of the range. If they have weapons, they stay far enough away from the asteroids that they can't reach them with mining beams and do too little damage with weapons. The fleet can't distinguish between a weapon and a mining beam when given the combat and mining commands, and always uses everything together.

And that makes fleets useless as roles, because many things don't work the way you think they should, like miners using mining beams for asteroids and not weapons, and strangely enough, in combat they often get closer to the enemy than to the asteroids to use mining beams on the enemy.

You also don't want to have them all with you all the time, and the only way to get rid of them is to bring them to a station. In all games where fleets are like in "Star Valor," they stay with you until they're destroyed, and you can't receive any orders except to attack and return, where ships only cost energy or a few credits.

I'd rather use miners and freighters, fighters, and fighters with missiles separately, rather than them all just sticking to me and doing the same thing.

I would rather be able to warp them away than wasting time and always having to let them dock at stations because they're all in my way and some with different equipment get in the way when they're constantly with you, missiles that fly after everything and everyone that decides not to come to you, mining ships that don't separate mining beams and weapons according to task and get in the way of me and yourself and the asteroid field, freighters that don't do anything or want to be full of fighting even though they're not suited to it.
