What is the plot of the game
From what I've researched on the very few sources there are, I can summarize it as such:
The 'Tall Man' ( our MC ) is an angel of death. He is guiding restless souls through the memories keeping them bound to this world and or preventing them from moving on and coming to terms with their personal deaths.
Each girl died particularly young and tragically, which is why they seem to be the focus of this restlessness.
'The Girl' from both the start and end of the game is one of the same. She fell suddenly from the lighthouse, and thus has not come to terms with her own sudden death. The fishes we see in her chapter can be compared to that of 'flailing like a fish' while she fell from the great height, or simply in reference to the area she's passed away in.
There is no real connection between any of these girls other than they have all met their demise at a young age, and typically in some violent or sudden manner.

Charlotte succumbed to her illness ( likely tuberculous ) and was left to suffer for an extended amount of time due to her father dying in the surrounding war; thus no one being able to pay for her treatments.

Marie ran away from home from a combination of neglect, misunderstanding, and a break of trust in regard to her parents. Running to the forest, she sought out a 'blue bird' from a family storybook that was said to cure illness. Her parents began emotionally neglecting her when her brother fell ill, and her father began using poisonous dye to dye random birds to create the storybooks 'blue bird' to keep her ill brother hopeful. Marie unfortunately found out and was traumatized from the incident, as her own pet bird was being used to be dyed and there were various corpses of birds from being unable to withstand the poisonous dye. This contributed to her running away, seeking the forest to prove the blue bird was real. She falls from a large tree while seeking it, inevitably dying. Her brother succumbs to his illness, and her parents both commit suicide from losing both their children.

Ophelia's cause of death is heavily implied to be self inflicted. After accidentally killing her one source of happiness ( a stray kitten she had taken in ), she blamed her abusive and neglectful parents to cope with the incident rather than accept what she had done. At first I thought her killing her parents and the manor was more apart of the dream than reality, but due to one note speaking of her stabbing a servant, I'm unsure. That being said, there is a funeral held for her so I am under the belief it may not have been entirely real and the only person she ended up inflicting harm upon was herself. Unloved, neglected, forced into a loveless marriage and losing her one comfort, she decides to end her own life and succeeds.

In all, the game is mostly a matter of how suffering in the world continues, and the Tall Man's work is endless in soothing these distraught souls.
