Broken Arrow - FAQ

Just to clarify, Taylor means go to the shooting range - Nez Perce is the better choice for this, although you can manage at the one in Transylvania.

An extra piece of information: Those targets at the range: the inner circle has a diameter of 10 cm, and the outer one a diameter of 20 cm.

Ideally, you should shoot 5-10 groups of 3 shots each and take a photo of the impacts on the target for each group. The only way to do that effectively at the moment is to use Photo Mode (set the Pause Game control to Yes). After you've shot a group go into photo mode, fly over to the target and take the photo. For the targets beyond 100 meters, you'll probably have to get up and run to the 100 meter target before engaging Photo Mode, as the impacts fade after some time. You might also try setting the Gameplay FOV to its smallest value to zoom in more (I just thought of that, actually).

Use all 4 targets: 50, 100, 150 and 200 meters, and then you can measure the impact points by looking at the photos in an Image Display tool that lets you measure the distance between two points (even if it is in pixels - since you know the actual diameters of the target circles in cm, you can calibrate the image).

Use the Bushnell Elite 3.5-21x50mm or the Integrix 4-18x44 scope if you have one of them.
Both are First Focal Plane scopes, so the reticle scale is true at all magnifications. Both use MILS (thousandths of a Radian) to measure angles. FYI: the Bushnell reticle is scaled by a factor of 4x, which means that the 1 MIL mark is actually 4 MILS. The Integrix is scaled by 10x, so the 1 MIL mark is really 10 MILS.

It's a bit of work, but if you like this sort of thing (no surprise that I do LOL) it can be fun.

Have you tried steamcmd?

Download it and then extract it into your Steam folder.

Exit steam completely (you cannot be logged into both Steam and steamcmd at the same time).

Open your Command Prompt as administrator.

Navigate to your Steam folder.

Your Command Prompt might open to something like:

C:\Windows\System32>_

You will be typing after the > at the blinking _

To simplify things, I will be imitating what your screen should look like like if you do everything correctly.

It should look like:

C:\Windows\System32>cd ..

C:\Windows\>cd ..

C:\>cd Program Files (x86)\Steam

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam>steamcmd.exe -overrideminos

It will now be installing steamcmd then launching it.

This will update a bunch of Steam files to non Windows 7 Steam compatible versions, this in necessary and will be undone by Steam automatically later.

If everything went well, it should now look like:

steam>_

If everything did not go well, it will look like:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam>_

Let's assume it went well.

Now we want to make it look like:

steam>login YourSteamUsermane YourSteamPassword

The first time, it may ask for a code Steam sent to your E-mail. Put in the code.

Once you are logged in, you will want to make it look like:

steam>app_update 1286830 validate

This will update SWTOR and ensure it isn't corrupted.

At this point, you may want to open your steam\steamapps\downloading\ folder in the regular Windows explorer.

Every folder name will be the Steam ID# of a game that is experiencing a Corrupted Download in Windows 7.

You may want to do the app_update for each of them, putting their number where 1286830 was.

Doing this now will save you time and headache later. When you next run Steam, it will uninstall parts of steamcmd in order to return your Steam to the Windows 7 compatable version.

When you are done updating all your games, you will want to make it look like:

steam>exit

If all went well, it will look like:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam>_

You have now successfully logged out of steamcmd (allowing you to log back into Steam) but you are not done yet.

Close your command prompt. You will not be needing it anymore.

In windows explorer, navigate to your Steam folder.

Delete steamcmd.exe

Rename steamcmd.exe.old to steamcmd.exe

Now launch Steam like normal.

It will say it is updating files. It is reverting the newer files created by steamcmd back to the Windows 7 Steam files.

**********
At this point you are done. Everything from here on is explanation and troubleshooting.
**********

I will now explain why you had to delete steamcmd.exe and rename steamcmd.exe.old.

The steamcmd.exe you deleted was a program that will no longer run as Steam will revert important files back to the older versions needed for Steam to run on Windows 7.

The steamcmd.exe.old you renamed was the installer that will update those files again the next time you run "steamcmd.exe -overrideminos" so you can download uncorrupted updates the next time you need to.

Again, doing all the "app_update ###### validate"s while you are already logged into steamcmd saves you a lot of time and headache later.

There are two errors you are likely to see when running "steamcmd.exe -overrideminos"

The errors will be displayed with three explanation points "!!!" at the beginning of the line explaining the error.

If the error says you have an unsupported os, then you mistyped -overrideminos

Simply try again, making extra sure everything is spelled correctly.

If the error states that it couldn't open a specific .dll file, then you may have forgotten to delete steamcmd.exe and rename steamcmd.exe.old the last time.

Make sure steamcmd.exe.old exists before deleting steamcmd.exe.

If steamcmd.exe.old does not exist and you are getting the .dll error, i don't know what the problem is. Sorry.

If you have Steam installed to a different hard drive than C: then you will want to navigate to that drive. For this example lets assume Steam is installed in the G: drive.

It should look like:

C:\Windows\System32>cd /d G:

G:>_

At this point continue like you would if you had to do then two "cd .."s.

If your steam install folder is not "Program Files (x86)\Steam" then put your Steam folder's path there instead.
i swapped to linux yesterday and completely wiped my disc so my unreg swind 7 is gone for good, ppl say you can run swtor on linux pretty well, but i am horrible at this stuff but i am tryn, my os and computer and steam itself runs great on linux. i still get a error when downloading that says no source found ..
gunna keep looking around n hopefully run into someone who can hlp
