It does affect performance, but unnoticeably, so that's a non-issue, but it does not have any benefits for a stationary PC in your house. It does nothing against cheats (you can use custom keys to sign ♥♥♥♥). While bringing little advantage (someone who gets their hands on your machine can't* install malicious stuff on it if it has secure boot), it brings a lot of risks (just imagine if m$ decided to revoke your keys...)

I reckon you should keep "what it brings to the user" out of this discussion, and by discussion I mean why EA, Riot or others asks for it. Windows and hardware manufacturers work on solutions to minimise risks above all to Enterprise, which is a much more valuable market.. some of these used or claimed to be used by their Anti-Cheat could block a lot of cards out there, right of the bat. Can it be exploited? - sure.. it does however restricts the ordinary use, which is now unfortunately so widespread with repositories completely open source served out of github for "[your game name here]".

personally, I know reverse engineering takes time - also, the fact the linker keeps producing output that is fairly similar doesn't help, the game developer has to introduce a lot of new things to actually have some breaking changes when the linker is done, and this doesn't happen often.. maybe once in years. Still, is totally doable to produce output frequently, say each hour, vastly modifying static memory, which all these games abuse with their singleton patterns as well as stubbing known methods with vast amount of garbage to almost nullify any automated signature scanning.. - then we would be in a position as, "can someone reverse all of these modifications in less than one hour?" - put enough barriers on a time constraint, and the answer will be "NO", they can't.. and this concept is so easy to grasp, it's so old.

Germans used this during second world war, they thought rotating their encryption once per day was enough, and it was.. until after years, Bombe was produced.. were the Germans a little more paranoid with time, things would be different.

at the end EA, Riot, Activision and many others that will follow suit are just doing whatever is easier to minimise cheating, even if not that effective - it's just the illusion something is being done they care, and not to solve the issue.. and above all, none of them care if their solutions scans all stuff that doesn't belong to them, has superpowers on systems they shouldn't have as long is protected by laws under some sort of Terms we must agree.

it is what is is.. - until they decide to do proper solutions, we will keep having to deal with bad ones.
