To be fair. Ashley and Andrew literally lust for each other. In some endings Ashley even gets prego and they do have sex. It isn't really shipping at this point.

Yeah it's not shipping. If by the end of chapter 3 someone doesn't get that the whole story is about them loving each other in their own twisted ways and how they deal with that fact, then that person kinda missed the whole point.

I posted in the bug report discussion, but I will repeat here with more info I though about:
The green hell bug, along with the black sky square of doom, started happening at different times, and I would claim that one led to another.
During my Mesa climb, I was 70% close to finishing it. I was mostly in the caves, so I didn't look at the sky much. During the climb, I walked deep into one cranny to see if there was an exit. There, the screen would turn this blueish-green filter out of nowhere, and it would stay like that.
Then, I climbed to the edge of the mountain close to the outside world and I looked at the sun: thats when the black square appeared and THEN the green hell started. It took like 5 seconds to settle, resulting in a all green world, except for fire and lava.
The black square only appears when looking at the sun at certain angles, so its probably a post-processing bug, like a faulty lens-flare.
This happened only once in my 4 times reaching this zone.

Also about the dificulty: I managed to beat Mesa solo twice, so skill issue on the others lol
