Holster/backpack damage from npc’s

It's not a bug. Everything that a bullet (or other projectile and even melee weapons) 'passes through' absorbs some of it's energy which reduces damage to you and does, indeed, take damage. NPC's seem to target center mass mostly, so those are the things that will be hit the most with them. When I get into it with puppets (melee) it's mostly my jacket and pants.

Whilst I do understand this. I can’t help but feel that the damage to said items is out of proportion. Particularly for holsters. Ive had knife sheathes disappear so many times since 1.0 that i no longer use them. As for pistol holsters they seem to be targeted and destroyed and then you can’t use them. As they cannot be repaired above 50%. It doesn’t feel balanced imo.

If i kill an npc that drops a hiking backpack at 30% durability i can repair it to 100%. But if my bag goes to 30% i cant repair it above 50%.

This was done to make items found via looting more valuable as they're usually in better shape (also prevents people from farming puppets and NPC's for equipment) and to encourage people to maintain their stuff versus just letting it get wrecked and tossing it for an easy to find & repair replacement.

I understand what you’re saying here as well. But I can go to an abandoned bunker and normally see npc’s in the generator room and get a hiking backpack that I can repair to 100%. I can buy a hiking backpack at the trader, but if all it takes is one higher lvl npc encounter for it to be destroyed then that is definitely an imbalance. I can’t recall ever seeing a puppet drop a hiking backpack either. Just saying i don’t understand why you can repair an npc backpack to 100% but not your own.

I always keep on top of maintaining my equipment. I’ve lost 2 hiking bags in two days that were 95-100% durability. This was from a group of npc’s in the city that spawned behind bushes, so I couldn’t see where I was being shot from. My bag and holster was ruined in this encounter and half of what i had collected for the previous hour was destroyed in the bag. If your gear gets constantly trashed it doesn’t make for a fun experience. Especially when you can’t maintain it above 50%
