Greetings,

You are correct that "normally" a real building would just dig into the earth on a slope and still make the house level with the entrance being level with the road in front.

But, this is a game and the terrain and the building models "are not playing nice" yet.
- The Unreal Engine does have the capability to "do what your asking", sink the models into the angled terrain, and still have a level entrance.

Is this an issue with the element model? Do these items, models have depth underground? Are the models just "placed" onto the terrain map as a surface element?
- Mine pits may be different as they open the terrain or extend below the surface level, and allow workers to move to the lowest position of the mine.

From what I watch in the Burgages construction, and most other buildings, there is always a stone wall level for the Timber to rest on, then everything is constructed from that.
- That should indicate that all structures have some elevation to get to the ground floor.
- Stops rain flooding in, animal entry, and cold drafts.

That first level floor is, "historically", normally filled with rock and sand, compacted down and laid with smooth rock, timber or paver stones. (or compact dirt if your poor) This would raise the floor above the ground level. (needing at least one stone step for entry)
I wasn't trying to make a real world vs game world observation. I just noticed on some burgage plot the home comes with steps and other don't. Also, the fully upgraded ones don't appear to have steps at all. So when the villager 3D model tries to go "inside" if the house wasn't built on perfectly flat terrain the door could be as much as three feet off the ground, so the villager floats up to the threshold. The house model all appear to be "playing nice" with terrain as far as I can tell. There are just no modeled steps for the villager to "walk" up. Sometimes I wonder if this is a bug because on my last load game none of the homes had steps, and the homes themselves seemed a little higher off the ground than I remember. The game is still very much in progress and oddities like these are to be expected.

The community is wrong about the devs

I think perhaps this is affected by the revenue model. So if the game is sold per unit, the best way to profit is a game with mass appeal to the largest age group. That model creates a simplified game with lots of feedback and very little depth. A game with a niche market could be supported with a subscription or community donation, something.

I think what needs to be fixed is find a way to make any game financially viable while not being something that has mass appeal, something niche. But giving enough return on investment (time + capital) to make it worth containing. Not just here but any game.

There is a sea of games on steam with the forums littered with posts in the Us Vs Them factionalism war. This leads nowhere. Granted there are jewels out there with much less faction posts.

Its interesting to note, at one time "before steam style platforms" game were released once. (IE Pacman etc) or released with just QoL updates and its longevity was driven by MODS. Quake was the first real example. I wrote a few mods for it back in the day in QuakeC.

I am just lazy about it and blame things like "kickstarter" starts off making long term promises acting as if the user is now an investor and creates seeds for this "relationship" to eventually go off the rails.

So my question, what is everyone opinion on how a game should be funded, promoted and should any promises be made about its production? So users be treated as investors? and should they expect some sort of return?
Developers managed the sold per unit "revenue model" for 4 decades without issue. The only thing this is affected by are the Huenink's greed and hubris.
