Stealing was always fake, but we all let them gaslight us. You own nothing until it's in your pocket, but that doesn't mean you're entitled to your life. You can't pickpocket. Closest thing to stealing you can do is using a bomb or killing, but you're not really an owner of anything. More like a renter and dying is meaningless for the most part. Basically you all fell for propaganda that makes this game for babies. You should be killable if you take "someone elses" ration, metal or laundry. If you fill a table with trash... We aren't gonna just wait for you to clean it up... This is a work place... ACT LIKE IT! If you get -5, -10 or Limitbaited... Another skill issue.

It's still their best RPG since Skyrim. The core loops have been improved for the impatient and the acquisitive by the addition of vehicles. The things the modding scene has added range between bizarre and truly incredible, which I guess goes for most Bethesda RPGs. It still leaves you to explore the vast emptiness of the space setting without ramming "something else to do" down your throat every 100 steps, which would have destroyed the sense of scale. It still centres around living and RPing in the world. It is still paced according to, and designed around the intiative and imagination of the player. Building ships and networks of outposts is still excellent fun, once you get the hang of it. It's still probably their least buggy or glitchy RPG. It still has some great quests and set-pieces. You still find yourself stopping just to admire the incredible things you see, from detail in ship interiors/cockpits to beautiful planetrises. It still mixes a generally serene and relaxing experience with action gameplay. It still has FPS space piracy and ship stealing. It still has, without question, their best FPS combat.

It still has its issues, which would mostly have been mitigated or fixed by more fulsome post-release support. It still has risk-averse creative decisions and other strange deficiencies in its writing and at times (in my opinion) obvious omissions in the options available in quest lines, even compared to previous Bethesda RPGs which favoured the whole "stop talking to the NPC is the choice to say no" philosophy. It still occasionally feels like the people writing the character or quest were not fired up by the idea of writing science fiction, even though the lore itself is good, and packed full of interesting opportunities. The way the Unity itself and the "big decision" are framed is still a conspicuous low point in the writing. It still has things that smell of (sometimes tragically) wasted potential, like an outpost/network system in dire need of fleshing out with quirks you must 'get the hang of' to enjoy, whole loops missing that were obviously intended to be there (hello law enforcement gameplay), and a base of POIs that could have been, but was not, steadily increased since its release (a strange decision given the resources available, this would be a big value add for a game being used to sell a subscription service).

Obviously if the theme, setting, different pacing of gameplay and delivery of content, exploring barren planets, or the genre itself are not up your street it's no different to how it was.
