I disagree...

Whilst Paradox may have insisted on the use of Bloodlines as a game title, the moment TCR knew this they had 3 options.

1) Say no and create the game under their own branding (Fund via another means).

2) Say yes but change their vision to fall in line with the source material.

3) Say yes and use the money to create their own vision under BL2 name (Mislead the players).

It's unrealistic for the paying public to effectively be conned into thinking they were buying something only to find out it's something else and not have a negative reaction. So since they chose option 3, they deserve the critique. Had the game been called Phyre with zero named link to WoD, VTM or Bloodlines then the reaction would have been nowhere near as much as it has been since day 1. At least it could have stood on its own merit.

The irony that had TCR created the game fans wanted with Bloodlines, the game would be a financial success, the Devs would have been a success and would have been far more likely to have been able to get their funding to create their own branded game but now their art is ruined.

You misunderstand how game dev works....

!) They can not do this, Paradox owns the game they were just brought on to finish and change Hardsuits work. Chinese Room does not own the IP so could not just go make a different VTM game.

2)Again they did very little asset development so they had to make a game out of what Hardsuit left them so they couldn't change too much mostly just the story like Paradox wanted, so it would fit "modern audiences"

3) No one has been misled under this title they are being super transparent so I'll give them credit for that...I mean they aren't even trying to hide the horrible animations in the gameplay and trailer videos, so you know what you are buying into.
Except that's not entirely the case.
When HSL left, Paradox didn't approach TCR, TCR approached Paradox with an idea for their vision of a vampire game, said it wouldn't cost them anything. To which Paradox basically said sure we'll publish the game but you have to use the Bloodlines 2 name. Since TCR are basically hired external agency workers and not under Paradox payroll, they could have declined and found someone else to get their game off the ground.

Equally, there was no voice acting for HSL MC, no voice dialogue for Fabien, no animations for the MC as it was all in first person in the HSL version, they could have used Rik Shafer's music instead of getting their own composers involved. The artwork, everything has been built from the ground up by using parts of the HSL version. They didn't have to do this, Paradox don't tell them they had to create the game they created, simply to use the name.

That means all creative responsibilities lie with TCR, no Paradox.

Paradox aren't blameless, they didn't have to greenlight the production of a game that's nothing to do with VTM or Bloodlines, they could have either retired the name and written off the costs whilst allowing this game under a different name.

But to justify everything negative as being solely Paradox? Whatever budget and time restraints where there for this game, TCR still had autonomy over what the time and budget was spent on.

They didn't have a gun to their heads says do this or else.
