They should just give you the option to choose a spot to land similar to with the gravship landing. I don't know why they didn't just do that.

Baker, when revealed (flipped over), turns another unrevealed Townsfolk into a Baker; that Townsfolk, when revealed to be another Baker, will turn another unrevealed Townsfolk into a Baker, and so on. If a Townsfolk is the Baker at the start of the game, they will say, "I am the original Baker"; all other Bakers will tell you what they were before transforming, such as "I was a Scout" or "I was an Empress". Some things to keep in mind:

• The Baker CANNOT transform Outsiders, Minions, or Demons, only Townsfolk.
  
• The Baker ONLY transforms Townsfolk that have not yet been revealed.
  
• A Townsfolk transformed into a Baker loses its original ability.
  
• The original Baker identifies itself as the original.
  
• A Corrupted Baker will not transform any Townsfolk.
  
• A lying Baker will say they used to be a random Townsfolk.

You can draw some conclusions just on these facts:

• If you reveal the first Baker, and they say anything other than "I am the original Baker", they are either Corrupted or Evil; either way, you should not find any more Bakers unless the Doppelganger is in play.
  
• A Doppelganger that copies the Baker will ALWAYS identify itself as the original Baker, and transform Townsfolk as normal; this could include transforming the real Baker into a Baker, in which case the transformed Baker will say "I was a Baker", and be telling the truth.
  
• If you reveal a Baker when you have only a few characters left to reveal, but NONE of them are Bakers, they are very likely all some combination of Outsiders, Minions, and Demons; if any of them were Townsfolk, you'd have gotten another Baker, unless the last Baker was Corrupted.
  
• If you somehow turn over a lot of Bakers, and the only non-Bakers left is equal to the number of Outsiders + Evils, then you transformed EVERY Townsfolk, and the Evil characters must be among the non-Bakers (which may or may not be helpful, depending on what they're disguised as).

Hope that helps! I'm admittedly VERY bad at this game, so if anyone chimes in with corrections or additional tips, you may want to listen to them over me. Unless you suspect they're Corrupted.

I've ran modded and vanilla servers from hosted services. And yes def you can notice some small issues with the modded ones, either due to the plugins or due to server pressure, etc. Which I do agree that they should update rust to be easier to run on the server side, but I also know that's easier to say than it is to do.
As far as the vanilla servers go, from my personal experience they are always the smoothest. Now disclaimer I haven't played vanilla or even attempted to in a year or two ( I was forced to with my old system) so that may have changed by now.
Like I said I've never, not once, experienced consistent issues with rust. Nor has any of my friends who play rust. Literally the only complaints I've ever seen or heard was from steam forums specifically. (not trying to discredit people but js from my personal experience running servers from various games and also playing rust for 11 years I think it's more likely to be an issue with the system/server than it is to be with rust or facepunch)

Thing is they've been deleting forums about this for a while now. Its just recently exploded onto steam. Its still all over youtube and google despite their efforts lol

p.s i have also built and ran servers (minecarft specifically) and been playing rust since 2014. You are correct about vanilla being the best, but is no longer the case. They have added way too many server clusters off what they have and its effecting all servers.

oh wait are you guys talking about the official servers? If so then I have no idea lmao, I've never played the official servers. Honestly I never even look at them so I had no idea people still play em

In case anyone is wanting to also build on the planks near the starting area, I managed by placing a couple scaffolding starting a little below - the second level brought be up pretty much level with the top plank and I just placed grass plank floors. Best I could manage unfortunately
