Question about solar panels

I have to disagree with this position.

The electric furnace is not working in complete isolation. There are also electric miners, including unique Space-Age big electric miners, along with assemblers, inserters, beacons, etc.

Beacon is the biggest source of power demand, 480 kW each, regardless of whether with Space Age or without.

The hidden power of productivity modules lies in their ability to indirectly reduce the number of needed electric miners and lower the power required to keep your factory running with raw resources. Then players can accomplish more with fewer beacons and machines.

Then add in the fact that the productivity effect is multiplied several times over at different stages through the production chain. The 10% productivity bonus might seem small at first glance, but it makes a huge difference, especially with new machines in the Space Age that offer more module slots.

The short version: I had a more efficient mega base, with the lion's share of power generated by solar panels and machines, mostly with productivity modules in the production chain. Only electric miners had efficiency modules once I had a sufficiently high productivity miner bonus from tech. That was before the Space Age was released.

Yeah, they also increase power consumption, which defeats the whole point of having fewer miners. But the miner can also use the module. So, having only a few productivity increases (not including the research) but almost double the power consumption would not be the real point of saving power.

I know that when chaining the productivity module, it'll almost give you a free product at the end of the chain with only half of the material. But the power consumption will be double or more, so using only half the factory but double the power just means it didn't save power at all. But considering you slotted in the efficiency module to all factories (that can use the module) should give you -80% power consumption across your factory.

Which means that the productivity module just gives you an illusion of saving power. But the real point is to save materials. Even with a Productivity module 2 will increase your power consumption by 60%, and this is using only one. Not to mention, slower production. Which also means it'll use more electricity per item being manufactured.
