My 2 cents as a long time battlefield player on a few changes they should make.

the more i think about it, the more silly this system seems xD

imagine you are in a dungeon, fighting undead, surviving and whatnot, your morale is low because you ate unsalted eggs this morning. talk about prissy precious baby! i thought we were hardened adventurers, but no...

and all of this is in "gritty and realistic" medieval setting, in which, realistically, you should be super happy to be fed at all!
First of all, it doesn't work like this. Your morale can't be below 50% simply because your diet is suboptimal. It means you mismanaged your character as a whole. Also, in case of mercenary, them being badly fed can and will affect their morale. You're literally paid to fight and risk you life, so no, just being fed won't suffice. Why do you thing modern soldiers get better food before deployment?

Secondly, morale can't be low just from eating a wrong dish this morning. If you have it low, it's an accumulated "debt" over many and many days of neglect, and you should look into that.

Generally, there's nothing strategically complex about this system which would require heavy micromanagement or optimizing your every step. It's designed to support the natural gameflow many players already have, hence why most people don't seem to have any problem with that. I'll break down each segment:

Situational Morale

Is largely based on how well your character fares in battle and between them. Having debuffs, untreated injuries, receiving a lot of damage will lower this parameter, but it will slowly regain back to 25% if it ever gets that low. Fixable by alcohol, drugs, certain consumables.

Diet Morale

Make sure to eat at least one proper dish per day. If your diet consists of raw vegetables, berries, bread, cheese and other random ingredients, it'll go down much faster than usual, depending on how long ago have you properly eaten for the last time. Buy or cook proper dishes, and you'll be good to go. Make sure not to focus on a single "convenient" dish type, because if it'll exceed roughly 25% of your diet, the Diet Morale will go down increasingly faster with each repetition.

Rest Morale

Simply sleep regularly, preferrably at least once a day for 8-10 hours. Oversleeping when some sleep debt accumulates is also okay.

Situational Sanity

Just like Morale, it depends on what you do in battle and regains passively when below half of the cap. Usually goes down from dealing with unholy stuff in Crypts and Catacombs, but to balance it out killing Undead and Proselytes will raise it. Certain dishes, mostly desserts, grant a lot of it. Some consumables, like Ether Inhaler, also increase it.

Lifestyle Sanity

Decreases very slowly over time. Chatting with NPCs (aka asking for rumors), completing contracts, cooking, crafting and praying will increase it. Doing at least one activity from this list once a day is usually enough to cover the over time loss. Very simple to maintain.

Rest Sanity

Works exactly the same as Rest Morale.
We're supposed to be playing hardened mercenaries, not dainty boys who need their hands held and shoes tied. Food variety and situational food morale should be separate with variety being sated much more easily while sfm requires cooking or buying proper dishes. Sleep debt should also disappear more easily, if I have my merc sleep for a dozen hours after a contract he should be good to go at 15/15 but it feels like it's constantly stuck at 8-10 and this is with most caravan upgrades.

Lifestyle sanity also feels difficult to keep high, not sure how the numbers work or if you get a point for talking to people w/o asking for news/rumors but it would be better if you only had to do one or two things to get sanity back and not a checklist of them.

Right now this system is a chore and it's not fun.
