okay I'll try to answer you genuinely. I think your wording is definitely more incendiary than you might've intended, trying to engage in good faith, but to answer your question:

This is not just a basic port from an RPGMaker file to Steam/consoles. There were changes beyond just the soundtrack, but the team's on record saying that the original soundtrack isn't being used because one, there was a lot of sampled music in it since it was originally a personal project available for free, and two, the original composer was uncomfortable with the formal/legal paperwork that would be involved with making a version of the game that costs money. Regardless, a new soundtrack was made and certain things were adjusted because money is on the table and that gets copyright holders angry. (for example, some of Earthbound's music and visuals had to be changed in localization because it infringed on a lot of US copyrights or it was the Red Cross.)

This is not a replacement for the original RPGMaker game released in 2008, it's just an alternate version worked on by the original developer and other team members who loved the original, and this version costs money. The original will always exist, and its numerous fangames inspired by it will exist, and this one that costs money will simply exist in tandem with it.
(I don't know how common that practice is; I know Witch's House, Ib, and Yume Nikki are also available on Steam for money but I don't know if their original freeware releases are still around officially.)

In my opinion, this port exists for the fans who liked the game and want to support it, for people like me who wanted to give Mortis Ghost money for a thing we genuinely enjoyed, for people who don't know anything about OFF but know Undertale/Deltarune or Earthbound or Yume Nikki or In Stars and Time and want to play another game in that inspiration pool (but with some modern QoL elements), or for new people who like RPGMaker games on Steam/consoles. I don't think it's a pointless cash grab, or cynical. Steam has seen some cynical cash grab ports and I don't think this one qualifies.

I have always said it myself. MAGIK IS OP and always has been. I would go off and even say she is the cheapest pick in the game.

She is consistently in the better half of the top 5 in all Ranks.

If Black Panther is a problem then Magik is a Game Breaker. But pointing Magik out is not the popular thing to do, yet. So all the sheeple just go along with it and cry Wolverine.

Wolverine being the new Standard of Bans is mind boggling to me.

Because truly banning Wolverine is a waste of a Ban Pick because no one even plays as Wolverine. And if they are then chances are they're hardly doing any good.

Maybe at the vert start of season 3 he was at 50%. But after the hype waned down that has changed.

His ban rate is 35% for season 3.5, and its unwarranted aswell. - As Wolverine is just part of being the New Guy on the banned trend. Like Groot in 2.5

Funny enough in QP where there are no bans no one picks Wolverine anyway. He is the 3rd least picked character. If Wolverine was so over powered and ban worthy then he would at least be picked in Quick Play often. - But he is not and he is at 3rd to last sitting with Widow and Hawkeye.

And in Ranked when he is not banned no one picks him either. His over all pick rate is the 3rd lowest in that as well.

Even with his team up openly available he is passed up on.

Meanwhile Magik gets some kind of exemption from season 0 onward for being called out for be overly oppressive and over powered. If you do so then you are crazy.
