I don't think I can agree with that. Games like this don't need those kinds of servers to exist. Shredders Revenge is a more modernized beat 'em up game, and I'm pretty sure it's on dedicated servers. I'm not gonna pretend like I'm an engineer though. This game very well may not be able to turn back from P2P once it was implemented. I don't really know how it works. All I know is that it really hurts the game, and a lot of the reason why people stopped playing it online years prior was likely due to the online being laggy over 50% of the time.
Shredder's Revenge came out 14 YEARS after this game.

'it's the same genre' doesn't validate the time difference. Castle Crashers had way more limitations in it's development cycle. I'm sure some small dev teams still can't afford dedicated servers.

Hell, even Nintendo uses dial-up ♥♥♥♥ internet to this day. I expect that from indie games, but I can't defend that for a huge company that is capable of much more. Since this is an indie game, I literally have no care in how they design online play. I'm just glad its a thing
(when I can actually play the game).

p2p is also still good to utilize. Servers eventually have to shut down, and a lot of modern games have no p2p integration, so the game just straight up dies if they shut off the servers. Additionally, unless the game is massive and has dedicated servers for every region, the game itself can be unplayable if you're in an unsupported area. p2p is useful in this regard.

Anyway, thanks for switching the topic to a personal grievance you have. I find it way more annoying when you have to wait for everyone to get it together and select a character, or even when the game crashes randomly like mine has been!
But that's exactly my point. Shredder's Revenge is a game that is more technically demanding due to modern day sensabilities, yet it runs just fine online due to the servers being dedicated. If Shedder's Revenge can do it, surely an almost 18 year old game like Castle Crashers can. But like I said, I don't know what goes into that kind of a change, and I won't pretend to. For all I know, Castle Crashers is stuck with P2P servers for whatever technical reasons that I can't understand, but all I know is that it sucks, especially when games like Shredders Revenge exists within the same genre.
