The first or second month after I started playing a random stranger in game gave me a weapon for free. It was just a random drop regular amputator but that act of giving and kindness blew me away. I have tried to pass along that kind act ever since. Whenever I make a friend who is new to the game or doesnt have much I give them hats for every class. I even use the giftapult once a month or so. There is so much negativity in the world it is nice to try and pass along kindness and good vibes.

When it notified you onscreen that the gift was delivered, did the recipients sound at all like idle bots, miscreants, etc? I hesitate to use them for fear of that.

Its been hard to tell. Of the past 5 giftapults Ive used 3 of the people had private profiles. One hasnt set up their profile yet. One for sure looked like a real person. So either 5/5 were real or only 1/5 or somewhere in between.

All I know is whenever Ive ever received a giftapult, which has been maybe 4 or 5 times over the years, I always search out the giver and write a comment of thanks on their profile. Even if all they gave me was a random drop sun on a stick (the last giftapult I got:) No one has reached out to me after any of giftapults Ive given this year so far:)

What's this closed weapons issue? I don't see a closed weapon option to play. I just play the normal game modes that's listed. It's pretty fun I am not sure if it's closed weapon or not but it's very fun.
The closed weapon playlist you have to scroll off to the right on the mode menu (I hate this hulu style crap)

Which is going to favor the "Data" for open weapons to the developers and keep closed weapons either as a small pool, or disregard it completely

So you're totally okay with recon just running around with an SMG, TUGS and (currently, though it'll change) spawn beacon?

What ends up happening is everyone finds the "right weapon" and applies it across the classes. Supports don't...support anymore, they just become assaults with extra ammo and healing. Recon doesn't do what they're supposed to do, which is provide intel, they just find a corner, pop a beacon and use an smg and run around like a chicken with their head cut off.

The closed weapons will actually make you think about the role you're playing as a class. And yes, there are class-agnostic weapons (dmr's and the such) but even then, they become very niche and the class roles stick to their archetype

When you give classes other weapons like that, they forget what class they are. Supports attempt to be recons, recons attempt to be assault, and poor engineers just...suicide bomb everyone :)

Yes I'm ok with these things you listed that don't sound like problems at all. I'm not OK with being stuck with an SMG or an LMG when I want to play Engi or Support. Recon is Sniper, everything else gets an AR for me. If I can't use the AR on the Engi... I won't be an Engi and I won't be repairing tanks or blowing up tanks or shooting down aircraft.

Class locked weapons doesn't stop anyone from playing as goofy as you described, either. Minus maybe recon.

I think what helped vs Tau is to try to get wraithlord as quickly as possible. The Tau AI seems to dislike getting close to them, if they do the good armour and flamers will really make the kroot regret their life choices.

Second line I run Reapers for fire support. Don't forget guardians are detectors so you need at least one unit on every front where you expect to expand or defend in order to reveal the stealth suits.

For aggressive push later in the game Fireprism is really good. Throws whole formations around and great anti armour. Another trick that worked for me is Falcon with Firedragons, with some warp spiders. Just Jump/teleport into the tau base and start wrecking.

Not sure if this will be helpful as is a bit of a general advice but it worked for me
