For the love of GOD, do NOT try to do to Hardspace ship breaker what you tried to do to homeworld. The CEO that said 'this game should be a LIVE SERVICE' nightmare should be kept the F away from suggesting anything.
Want to have a success? Here for once players will tell you exactly what we want, blueprint it and go PRINT money.
1. DO NOT make it live service/pay to win/skins-for-cash bs that no one wants, if you can release 3 DLC's that are about THE GAME ONLY and not 'HOW MUCH CAN WE GET OUTTA OUR PLAYERS' only THEN release the garbage that 95% of gamers DO NOT WANT IN THEIR GAMES.
2. You will make it multiplayer (see above about skins and pay to win stuff) however do NOT ignore the single player campaign that GOT you the gamers/customers/players. Multiplayer mode comes AFTER that campaign is amazing. The VAST majority of your players will CONTINUE to be single player folks, don't ignore them. If you do, you are playing with fire because THAT ISN'T WHAT MADE THEM BUY HARDSPACE 1!
3. The music is as important as the single player game. BRING BACK and EXPAND the music by 3x AT LEAST, make it NOT DMCA able on youtube/game-streaming platforms, you'll get sales AND loyalty by this move. Imagine what that can do for the DLCs we KNOW you'll be making.
4. DLC's - do NOT treat your gamers as stupid, do NOT chop up the game into 4 bits, slap $40 on the first, $20 on each other DLC and say 'hur hur!' we got you to pay $100 for the game. Instead ACTUALLY make a GREAT game for single player that only costs the $40 and can complete the campaign fully. THEN show you know your player base by exploring the options they BEGGED for in the first game that the first game couldn't do. Other ship yards, exploring the solarsystem in your ship while requiring your skills, helping other business & colonies to 'do business' by clearing wrecks, protecting space based industries and/or making a great profit by exploring derelicts before the 'space tow trucks' arrive to take it away. The possibilities are MASSIVE and NO ONE IS DOING THEM ATM.
5. Season passes - look at games like Snowrunner, people WANT to be involved in their own missions/business and have long term growth, build ups of their equipment, ships and maps. If you are going to offer a season pass model (it better not only have 2 DLCs in it so help you) or gamers will revolt after what they saw HW3 become. You CAN do Season passes but each season better be 3 to 5 DLCS worth, NOT 'what's some crud we can scrap together to LOOK like it's worth it' people remember the last 'thing' you folks tried, it'l an uphill battle. Own it and make it amazing.
6. Do NOT use AI generated anything in the game whatsoever to 'save money' gamers are SEETHING at this cheap crud and will not only take notice, but will Boycott the game entirely, hire good musicians, artists and coders, treat them well and showcase how and why with public dev diaries on whatever youtube channel. Watch the support and wishlists POUR in.
7. Take player feedback EARLY, OFTEN and SHOWCASE your progress. Setup forums & a discord, get players onto it and ask 'what do you want THE MOST' curate the replies. Then ADD those features that are possible, show them you are doing what you can and roadmap what is and what ISN'T getting in, explain why.
8. ROADMAP and UPDATE it MONTHLY like clockwork, this helps people know the progress of the game, see how far along the features they want are coming OR NOT, AND will enable the devs to show exactly why the release date should be FLUID, and not SET IN STONE so a sub par product is forced to be released because investors push hard, the game releases to bad reviews, never recovers and NO ONE makes any money. (How do investors not understand this by now?)
9. Realize that players will be watching like HAWKS after what happened with HW3. Learn from that mistake, own it and follow ALL of these points to not only win back trust, but to become a 'come back kid' story that almost NO studios tend to do. You know players were everything from annoyed to ANGRY. Show them that you have the intelligence and desire to 'bring it back in' by doing these things to earn that trust, which in turn will shower the franchise with that dosh you seek.
10. Ignore everything I've said at your own peril. This isn't like an 'high end asset flip' this game was/is special, players will tell you in SPADES why if you LISTEN TO THEM. Want to make it a multimillion if not dozens of million franchise? I just told you exactly how.
