#1 Yes you are correct and you also don't have to pay the redeployment cost. However, you have to be on a relevant deployment hex to upgrade a unit. Due to the size of the map, a lot of units were many moves away from a suitable deployment hex. I also often redeployed supply ships back to Japan, to repair and resupply, rather than sail them back to a port.

#2 I actually made very little use of Tanks. Also I played the scenario before the new artillery rules came in. My advances against the Chinese were so slow that my artillery had no problem keeping up. I did, however, use a lot of garrisons and infantry: Imperial Guard, Marines, Paratroops and Engineers were particularly useful.

#3 I was using the Partisan option so needed a lot of garrisons. You can increase your manpower by some of the policies like your approach to occupation and conscription. Remember you don't need to garrison Korea (apart for maybe some coastal hexes).

#4 For some strange reason, the USA declared war on the Vichy French in my Campaign. That didn't really help me at the time because the Indian Army overran their mainland positions leaving only small province and a handful of units before I could come to the rescue. Making peace with the USA will only give you a temporary reprieve, because you will have to re-declare war on them to capture their victory locations.

Like yourself, I am also currently playing Europe 39 as Germany. I am currently in Late 1942.

Follow up question :

Is there a hint or indicator what or how much weapons can be put into a weapon mount ? Like a size restriction ? I was now able to squish all small weapons into the moving mounts, but when I try to add a larger weapon it says that the weapon doesn't fit. However i cannot see any information about the mount size.

When I tried booting up the game for the very first time the game took 15 minutes to just get through the logos (CAPCOM, RE Engine, etc.) and it was going SO SLOW by the time I went to the settings screen and tried to lower many of the options as I can, the game still kept lagging even outside of full screen mode, does anyone know blow I can fix this? :(
