Why does ever topic including AI turn into an argument :-D

What I know is, some simple tasks in the game requires way too much player control.

Yes, it does. In large fleets, for example, the more ships you have, the more things you have to click on. In large empires, it can turn into a nightmare.

But that's how it's designed.
People forget that it's not a 4X game. it just has some 4X mechanics.
Fleet control and the strategic layer of gameplay are additions, not the core.

They are trying to improve the 4X aspect, which is why we got the position defence mechanics for carriers and stations with an admin module, for example. ( It would be better if we could have more than just one position defence group for stations). Or automatic ship replacement for fleets.
Destroyers now mostly stay within the range of their main guns (unless they are repositioning, in which case they try to use boosts to reduce the time they spend under fire if they get too close).

The team that actually works on the code is not very big. To be fair the whole company is not very big. So imho despite all the problems with the game and everything we wish would work better or offer us players more QoL features, I'm always impressed that this game actually gives us so many functions, even if they are sometimes only basic, and runs the whole simulation on our machine without it going up in flames. :-D

Arguing was never my intent

I think most players recognize there are too much human input needed for game who wants to do space empire sim; it has been an issue since launch

but most also recognize there has been some improvement in some movement/aspect

more improvements are still needed - and I showed a couple examples to OP to see if that's game breaking for him.

and that's the answer for OP of this thread

Healing/Buff cleric seems like it would be fun in multiplayer

Thanks for sharing your feedback. I totally understand how a healing/buff-focused Cleric can feel a bit underwhelming in single-player, especially at level 35 when you’re still building up your power. Clerics are one of the most versatile and powerful classes in the game, with the ability to specialize in either healing or DPS, and their potential really starts to shine as you progress.

For trash mobs, I hear you - whacking them with a stick can feel like a slog. Have you considered putting a few points into the “Smite” skill? While it’s not a pure healer build, “Smite” can give you a solid damage option for clearing trash mobs more efficiently, letting you save your healing skills for tougher fights. As you level up and invest in skills and gear, you’ll see your Cleric’s potential unfold. Equipment, stats, and skill choices play a huge role, and some mobs or bosses with high magic resistance or armor class (AC) can make certain fights trickier for specific builds.

As for mercenaries, their stats and skills scale with your level, so they’ll grow stronger alongside you. Right now, it might seem like the Cleric mercenary’s healing is on par with yours, but as you max out your healing skills and optimize your gear, your output will far surpass theirs. On the DPS side, mercenaries are designed to complement your playstyle, not outshine you. A DPS mercenary might not match the damage you could deal with a DPS-focused Cleric build, since your character has access to better gear, skill synergies, and customization. To make your setup more effective, try picking a DPS mercenary whose strengths align with the enemies you’re facing - for example, a merc with magic attacks for high-AC mobs or melee attacks for magic-resistant ones.
