Everyone here talking about how bad weapon arms and double-back weapons were are crazy.

Weapon arms and double back weapons were actually VERY powerful in the classic games - they needed to be because it's one part taking up two slots. Weapon arms were especially powerful because of weapon cycling. They were the only way to use "two" weapons simultaneously, so you were always dishing out double the firepower. The trade offs are completely worth it if you're willing to build around the full offense play-style those kinds of weapons require. Damage is king, and the only hit point that matters is the last one.
Grenade weapon arms and back chainguns to compensate for the low ammo was how I beat the crap out of Nine Ball Seraph the very first time I played and completed Master of Arena.

The vertical missiles in AC2 were incredible for the arena matches. 2-3 salvos on an open outdoor map and your opponent is cooked - literally, if the raw damage didn't destroy them, the heat damage would.

An old friend of mine did very well with the bazooka weapon arms in AC4FA, even as he hovered in the air and took shots from 1000 meters away.

I would like to see weapon arms and double back weapons return? That depends on whether FROMSOFTWARE wants to make AC7 another entry level game, or the culmination of everything there ever was.

Energy weapons were also incredibly powerful, especially in the classic games. Like with weapon arms and double back weapons, you had to build and play around them.
For starters, you will struggle with energy weapons if you do not use the generators with the highest EN output (not highest capacity) and the beneficial option parts. It also helps to use other parts with lower EN costs.
The biggest benefit of energy weapons is ammo was free. Cutting your ammo costs meant you kept more money from mission rewards to buy more parts with. This is incredibly valuable in the earliest levels when your enemies will be the weakest. Energy weapons were best against small numbers of weak enemies. You might struggle with using energy weapons in prolonged engagements or you're fighting large numbers of enemies at once.
