Rather underwhelmed thus far. Will see how it continues to unfold, but going from what I've experienced so far and the very, very sparse balancing in the patch notes, I'm not expecting my take to change much if at all. I'm very much in the camp now that the developers developed a game that is outside their capacity to keep fully on top of.

I'm pretty sure Stalker 2 runs better on a 5090 than a 3060 lmao....Anything to justify being broke nowadays...Guess DF the famous console analysis are their to make that FoMo feel better

I've primarily moved on to Reddit when it comes to lore talk since it's a little better set up and the conversations really get your brain thinking, but figured I'd share this here since it's just a quick and sloppy thing I did.

This won't be an indepth fan theory, or even well researched since I'm sure someone's already posted the lines from the source file already, but I thought it was neat anyways and like sharing/talking about the game.

I was following another thread during my deep fan theory crafting of the Trysha family which brought me to the elements of magick. While discussing the philosophy of the five elements with others on Gemmalady's stream, I was informed that some of the spells were classified differently in DD1 (I'm not as familiar with the first game).
Anyways, this got me to thinking about how I might find out more and realized that Wights were technically sorcerers who cast a variety of spells and actually spoke their spells aloud, unlike our Arisen or pawns. From what I could find on the DD1 wiki it seems like the Wight's dialogue lines have been updated for DD2. Despite its appearance in the game not being represented in the same manner, their incantations suggest the semblance of "Dark magick" as still being a thing.


(Disclaimer: Very well could've misheard some of this.)

Elemental Spell Casting Incantations

"Cankers of false gods, may ye fester and decay." - Elemental (Seems to prioritize ice spells first)

"Tragedy of darkness, wear thy curse upon the living." - Elemental (Seems to prioritize lightning spells first)

"(Something) of death, claim (something)..." - Elemental (Seems to prioritize fire spells first. Also had this one get cut short the most and transition into the Orb Blaster incantations or another elemental skill.)

- From what I could see/experience it seems like the Elemental Incantations are somewhat interchangeable for what incantation triggers which spells. It also seems like they're capable of cutting their incantations short, but still causing the spell to trigger and cast (like how you sometimes see pawns stutter cast mid-cast and switch spells. But unlike pawns, the Wight's spell still goes off)
However, my sample is this one event since it was a half thought, so I will come back and edit this (if I remember) when I find more/better examples. I'll probably try to leave the kids at home before I head out to try again (Bless you Gunnar, but when I tell you to 'Wait' it also includes not casting High Empyrean!)

Orb Blasters Incantations

"Cower in death's embrace." - Line of shooting Orbs (Possibly prioritizes Vertical formation, but can produce horizontal)
"Abyss consume thee." - Line of shooting Orbs (Possibly prioritizes Horizontal formation, but can produce vertical)

Maelstrom
"Shroud of despair, condemn sun's light and extol the rise of darkness." - Maelstrom (Can hear a few times where it starts to cast it, but then switches to a different spell, but unlike the smaller incantations this one won't trigger until the whole incantation is completed)

Unrelated

"Ha ha ha." - When you get slapped around because you're trying to record.
"Know thy folly, trespasser!" - When you approach the Wight (Unsure if it's because this was the Waterfall Cave Wight . It said a similar line about trespassing when the chest containing Nation's Death Knell was opened)

This is not a free game.

I managed to finally complete the tutorial section it took some time

.. and I can't figure out what it is.

When I do any sort of mass-fighting I am holding up just fine. Even in the co-op difficulty things, I am doing great with the combat. As soon as I get any bounty, of any kind, for a single ship.. that all goes out the window.

In my solo game I haven't quite gotten a province to the point of buying frigates, but I've a brig and the free navy's version of one. I've built for armour, damage, repair, mobility, but obviously other stats are higher like accuracy, hull, etc, but those main ones are all 200-350% improved.

But I come up against the solo fights, either with the bounty or the story missions... and all my armour is gone in one, maybe 2 hits. As soon as I engage I'm debuffed to the point I'm either unable to utilize any mobility, or my cannon range is cut ridiculously short. The damage I do is rarely even on par with them.

It doesn't matter how I shift my talents around, different captain/specialist skills, I'm always seeming to fight something that has advantages in every single area.

Anyone got any advice here?
