A "brand new card" does not necessarily mean it will come out of the pack flawless. Most cards will have some sort of manifacturing defect on them; Tiny imperfections would be hard to see without looking at it a bit closer, but it would definitely dent the score when it comes to mint-ness.

Sometimes you get misprints where the card's main contents would be slightly misaligned from the center causing the borders to be uneven. Sometimes there's tiny scratches on the surface. Sometimes the edges of the cards have a little dent on them.

Even if you managed to get the card straight into the sleeves while handling them like a fragile newborn baby, some of the score deductions are just inevitable because that was how the card was like straight out of the pack.

Yes I realize that. But when I played cards games over 20 years ago Magic the Gathering most of your cards after you bought heck of a lot of em ended up being traded and played with like crazy. You had cards that were falling apart literally.

You still played them and to me getting a card graded is your cards that have been played with. I do understand exactly what you're saying because if you get a deformed card out of a pack it can be worth a lot of money. But you're right.
