Perhaps "toolbelt" perk that gives you unique slots for the screwdriver, hammer and other items alike.

Archotechnic Consultant could have it as a default perk.

that was my suggestion in the jobs/traits rework post i suggested. i only split up because it'd also be a nice QOL change for the game.

That actually sounds like a better idea to me.
I don't use the hammer all that often, but still nice to have hand when structures have taken damage.

The shuttle is a vehicle, I don't see much reason for anything else at this point. No reason to slowboat around in a car when you can just build a few shuttles and fly almost instantly where you want to go. I would have agreed ground vehicles were probably coming eventually before Odyssey, but now that the shuttle is in I don't see any gameplay niche for them. Shuttles are too good and too easy to get, and for more substantial transport there's the gravship. Odyssey was the get out and explore expansion, it was the here's vehicles to make that easy expansion. I can't see us getting another expansion exactly like Odyssey, at least not any time soon. Maybe in another 10 years if the game is still getting expansions it will circle back around and do another exploration/vehicle one. It would still probably be pretty redundant and mostly RP though.
