One thing I love in all games as well as selectable difficulties (and strongly tied to selectable difficulties) is the grindability of the game,

are missions replayable and are you able to keep (most of) the loot / xp you gained in that mission?

This strongly ties into selectable difficulties and in doing so allows the player to get 'stronger' etc to eventually be able to ignore things he doesn't like,

traps being a perfect example.

Perhaps during the first few levels a mage or archer hit by a 'trap' could easily be almost killed,

but if a game allows for grindability (replaying missions over and over and getting xp, levels, and therefore more hitpoints) then even getting hit by traps becomes somewhat insignificant and players aren't bothered by it so much anymore.

I wouldn't mind traps so much if I knew I could replay missions (especially on progressively higher difficulties) knowing then as I try harder higher level missions (with leveled up characters0, then the traps won't instantly kill my characters and still leave me with ample hitpoints.

The feather boots sounds like a decent idea (much like that 'artifact' idea about avoiding traps) that would be a great item to have in a shop that costs a huge amount of money but certain players will be happy to pay.

Consider having it as a 'special' item that rotates periodically with other special items (that are extremely rare) and as such are a big deal when they are in the store.

Players could possibly pay a fair amount of gold to 'rotate' the shop items faster (i.e. instead of waiting 2 weeks they pay and wait only 5 days or something), for the shop to change the items around.
