Like a poly morph spell with rng on what you transform into with their own stats (like say orc for strength and melee damage but extremely weak spells, goblin for faster walking speed and a small knife, an elf for strong spells but extremely frail, etc) but have some transformations be duds (like a frog, a fly, or even just a chair)

or maybe a force field spell

or maybe even a spell that needs 4 or 2 page pieces to summon something big (like a dragon)

I could think of other ideas but id have to ponder on it in the orb chamber for a while.

At the moment it does not run on mac, however, I am hoping to have the game compatible for mac by the time we do a full release

Not really. You wanna play Coop in Elden Ring or DS3 you have to endure Invasions. But Invasions usually mean twinks or hackers 90% of the time so having the option to turn them off in Coop mode is a godsend. My mates might actually buy Lords Of The Fallen now...

The principle always has been to make masses of them and outnumber enemy units . The trick is to stack up spearmen against individual stronger enemies - of course this would take a lot of spearmen, one swordsman can take dozens of spearmen with him !

They can also push down ladders off walls - not that that happens a lot these days , and they can also dig and fill moats .

Another use I found for them was thanks to the campaign - using them to "herd" horse archers .
So, say they send in a small trope of horse archers , and you don't have crossbows up , well if the enemy horses run into spearmen then they can match up , 800 gold worth of horse archers beaten by 80 gold worth of spearmen is hilarious to watch

But Monks are way better than spearmen - except for their initial investment of the Cathedral .

I agree that this unit always has been flawed . Perhaps if they were faster - not necessarily always running , but faster than they are now .
Oh or maybe bonus damage versus cavalry, y'know as spear units should do - would make them a great and cheap way to protect against cavalry running for your Siege units !
