🐞 Bug Report: GPU Memory Leak in 7 Days to Die – Unity Memory Management Fails to Release VRAM

Game Version: 7 Days to Die (latest Steam build)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (March 2025 release)
Driver Tested: Adrenalin 25.6.1, 25.6.3, 25.8.1
OS: Windows 11 64-bit
Engine: Unity
Reproducible: Yes – consistently across multiple sessions
🧩 Issue Summary:

There is a persistent GPU memory leak during gameplay. VRAM usage increases rapidly when exploring the world and does not release unused memory, even when returning to the main menu. The game eventually crashes once GPU memory is exhausted. This behavior is exclusive to 7 Days to Die among all tested games.
📊 Key Observations:

VRAM usage increases continuously while moving in-game (open world traversal).

The game fails to unload textures or assets even after returning to menu.

Reproducible in both DirectX 11 and Vulkan (via DXVK) paths.

Using dxvk.conf to limit maxDeviceMemoryAllocationBytes slows down the leak but does not stop it – memory still exceeds limits (e.g., 5.1 GB set cap → grows beyond it).

GPU usage spikes to 99% in Unity-based titles like 7DtD when standing still and moving the mouse, suggesting shader/lighting subsystem issues.

Issue persists after full Windows reinstall and with all hardware verified via OCCT (RAM, PSU, GPU).

Other Unity games like Unturned show milder but similar behavior (VRAM stuck after alt-tab), whereas Unreal Engine games (e.g., Enshrouded, Palworld, Cyberpunk 2077) behave normally.

🔧 Temporary Workarounds Tried:

Lowering all graphics settings to minimum → VRAM usage stabilizes, but leak resumes when certain features are raised:

Reflections on Ultra → immediate crash

Texture Quality High + Low LODs → stable

Switching to Vulkan (via DXVK) + capped memory:

Leak becomes slower, but never fully clears

Even returning to main menu does not reduce memory below initial baseline (e.g., 4.5GB vs. expected 3.5GB)

Tested Steam launch commands:

-force-d3d11, -no-cache, -no-texture-streaming → no effect

🧪 Conclusion:

There appears to be a serious issue in the way Unity handles GPU memory in 7 Days to Die, especially regarding:

Texture streaming

Reflections and shader cache

VRAM flushing after gameplay ends

This bug may affect other Unity-based games with large open worlds but appears to hit 7 Days to Die particularly hard in its current build.
