They had 7 years to put effort into the game. The reviews are well-deserved, tbh. Don't pretend like effort doesn't matter.

Other games have suffered deserved scores and have redeemed themselves and did right by their paying customers with post-launch effort. No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 are notable examples.

Setting "turnOffScreensTimeout" should fix this issue. You need to do it while SteamVR is not running. You don't need to wait 5m to see it work. In startup/shutdown you will see "turn off displays after" and the option will say "select an option..." instead of a time, because the time you selected is not in the list. Just _don't change the dropdown_ and it should be effectively "never".

If you don't see "select an option..." then post with exactly which file you modified and the order of operations.

It would be nice to confirm that has the desired effect, since if it does not, adding "never" to that dropdown would just be a disappointment.

Of course I closed steamvr before I changed the file. I even tried it several times, even closing steam completely before opening the file. I used the file named "steamvr.vrsettings" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config
I saved and closed the file after editing, reopened steam, connected through VD and opened steam vr. In the option within steamvr there is really no "select an option". Maybe I have to reset or reinstall steam vr for that?

Yes when the game is calculating navigation paths for hundreds of units, there is a bottleneck and units have to take turns, which means that some swaths of them will stand still until they get updated.

Combine it with residual manifest and watch them get confused because they have no auras at all for 30s

So not only were the consumers shorted of new levels and their perks, such as device upgrade tokens, we are stuck with a USELESS HUD element, that does not even go away when the "turn HUD off" option is activated...

I started playing Subnautica in 2025 and recently started exploring mods. I always like to play a game to the finish first without any mods as the devs intended.
In my play through I got jacked up by two of the bugs they fixed in the last patch so it is good to see the game hasn't been abandoned by the devs. And yes, I mentioned both of these glitches in recent posts in the forum.

I almost envy your "luck".
I've played the game for 410 hours, completed it several times, first without mods, then with different combinations of mods, and have never even heard of these bugs.
I'm not against bugs being fixed in the game. But we have to face the truth. This is a purely commercial patch. It was released on two games at once - Original and BZ. In one day. With only one purpose - to add advertising. This is done in both games.
In order to somehow justify this introduction of in-game advertising, the developers "fixed" several bugs so minor that players who had played hundreds of hours had not even heard of them. The "camera drone death bug" is so idiotic that I'm sure the developers themselves came up with it.
Maybe 0.01% of players actually encountered these bugs. But many more players use mods, and now these mods are broken. Having pleased 0.01% of players, they ♥♥♥♥ in the porridge of 90% of players. Who can't play now, but can watch ads. Unless, of course, they roll back to the old version of the patch.

You can roll back by selecting the previous version in the game properties in Steam. I checked - this method works.
