Thanks, Also I wanted to pointed out that US president has an oath of office goes in a lines of "To protect and defend United States from enemies foreign and domestic". Crime is detrimental to good order of the society at large. Law abiding citizens should feel safe going out without fear of being shot at or robbed.

I totally support my president Trump to deal with this situation. There is a law called Home rule act of 1973 which allows a president to federalize and control Washington DC as the president sees fit. In regards fighting crime in other cities, Trump would get permission from governors of the state to use their national guards to fight crime alongside with the local law enforcement.
When I heard about the event in the USA from here in Sweden, I got the impression it was total chaos. While I didn't see anything like it, it felt as if there were something extremelly dangerous going on. Almost to the point of having a 50/50 chance of surviving going out to buy food. Using military(?) for something like what I heard, to stop crime, feels like the very last resort and I got worred, and sad about the innocent people going through such things. :(

Now, to be real, I don't think it's a 50/50 chance of survival, but it felt like that was what was going on. I assumed I was just imagining too great of a situation than it really is. That is why I started talking with my friend and he told me that crime was actually down, and that caused me to become confused as if crime was worse last year, why didn't this happen then (or did it also happen then?)? And more. So, when I saw this thread, I thought I might as well ask about if the 20% is true in the first place. And as I know that the chances of me getting biased results when searching I was going to see what people might give me here first to (maybe) compare with. :D

The thing you wrote about that law sounds, to me, like a very strange law. I'm gonna be honest and say that having such a law in the first place sounds very alien to me. But I know Sweden is very different from the USA. Sweden is just one country while, somewhat technically, the USA is several countries-in-one so it might be needed on such scale! :)

Still, I can't even begin to udnerstand the situation and I hope it's not as bad as my brain wants to imagine it!

[…]What would convince you that Washington DC is a crime-ridden city?
When I think of that word, I think of hundreds if not thousands of people getting shot per day in one city, in this example.

Why I wrote what I think of when hearing the term is to explain that my idea of it might be different from yours? Or I hope mine is, I do not want to think so many people get injured in one city in the USA per day. :(

So, if you have something to steer my idea of it, then I'll be happy to hear it. Thank you if you do that, but I mostly just wanted to see what the real numbers are. Don't have to be exact, anything to clear my confusion up is something I'll be very grateful to see. :D
