[Info Request] -insecure launch option
I originally thought with this command on I would not be able to join vac secured server. Out of sheer curiosity, I joined a server on l4d2 vac protected with the insecure command line activated, I still manage to join server.

So what is the point of the -insecure launch option?

I may be wrong on this, but the -insecure option works only for servers you start, not the ones you join.

Games you host while under -insecure will be VAC unprotected. But it doesn't deny you from joining a VAC protected game.

The launch option you speak of is indeed a server argument, not a client one.
ah that makes sense :>, thank you both for the info.

Which is odd because in the recent CS:GO update people had issues connecting. One fix was people had '-insecure' in their launch paramentesrs. Many claimed 'this was normal'. Which is bizarre....

Nope. It does not ban accounts. It prevents them from joining an official server until -insecure is removed.

EDIT: Hummm. The guy I quoted must have realized he was wrong and deleted his post.

Not true, I joined a valve official server for l4d2 (vac enabled) perfectly fine even with -insecure activated. As someone said before it is a server parameter.

With -insecure, you can load dlls. Like in CSS, you cannot use MetaMod: Source in a listen server without using the -insecure argument.

If you have -insecure and you try to join a CS:GO MM game it will not let you but it does not ban you. With L4D2 it does not matter. The guy I was talking to was under the impression it would ban you in CS:GO as it will not let you join an official server until you remove -insecure.
