Will using cheats in single player mode on games get me banned?

i am stuck at a point in a game and i need to use cheats to pass it but will it get me banned?

Depends on the game. First you should check the store page if the game uses VAC at all. If it uses VAC then it depends if it is a full singleplayer or just a multiplayer you play alone. Giving information on which game you mean would help to answer your question.

For example: CS with bots = VAC is on, Dungeon Defenders single player = VAC is on.

would portal 2 single player cheats get me banned

Portal 2 does not use VAC,you are safe here.

Console cheats won't get you banned. Even less in Portal 2 which,as mentioned, doesn't use VAC.
I've replayed the whole game using cheats (to mess around and noclip to places) and here i am, not banned at all.
Which part are you Stuck on??

Actually if you enable dev console you can see "VAC secure mode is activated." after map loads, it's not a confirmation that VAC is actually running but be careful anyway.

Also while playing co-op typing 'status' will print server info and there will be info that the server is 'secure' - VAC on.

cheats you enter in the console in singleplayer won't ban you.
On some games when you set sv_cheats 1 the achievements get disabled.

depends on games if a game uses VAC ban like CS so you might get ban for that even on single player cuz its about the VAC program's detection

So far I know,console command,all avaiilable trainers is definitive for Single Player Mode Offlline and unsecured VAC servers only.

Cheating Online Multiplayer mode VAC secured server can get you banned pölicy.
I don't know if any Publisher game release cheatfree allowed to play on VAC secured servers.

It's something crazy for Steam/Valve banning policy when there's an exception..
