ASUS Sonic Radar..the return
Hi mates,
for everyone that do not know about sonic radar, it is an asus software bundled on ROG mobo that "translate" sound info in a HUD radar visible on display, announced this year in july.
It is clearly an UNFAIR ADVANTAGE to ROG users!

After short time and after our disappointed claims, Sonic radar completely VANISHED from asus pages.
If u google, you will see a number of article about this, (eg on Anandtech)

This month sonic radar reappeared while brand new rampage black was announced. We are going to do nothing about this? Valve will block that cheat?

How funny. People don't recognize a cheat when they see it. If this was released into the wild by an unknown and worked on any system I think people would take a different stance. This adds a graphic that is not in the game to help you locate others position. How that could not be considered a cheat is way over my head. I thought it was obvious to everyone it is clearly a cheat. Until they make your weapon snap to the sound automaticly I guess you guys are ok with it.

@Facedown

Not okay with it, but I think I can understand what ASUS Wanted to do with it, except it's clearly giving an unfair advantage in most situations. So it shouldn't be allowed.

Personally, I couldn't care less about something like this. The only people that'll ever use it are the people I easily stomp. No "pro" would ever use something like this because that would mean relying on something other than their own senses/abilities which would just make them rusty/crap.

Get a decent soundcard or headphones and this program is completely irrelevant. This program won't tell me anything I don't already know using in game sound.

So meh, go ahead and use it, when you're looking down at your fancy radar I'll be busy shooting you in the face.

using such tools are for players that need such handicap,

That's fine, when you're walking towards the building i am standing in and it tells me you are walking around the wall from the left side, i'll be sure to aim there so you have a clearer view of the face.

Its pretty weak tbh, no offense mate but the people complaining about it obviously have no skill, no depth perception and want everything pointed out to them in black and white and have ears full of wax... end of the day if someone is really good at the game whether hes got this sonic radar or not hes more than likely going to out gun you anyway so the point is moot.

Is it unfair for someone having high quality 5.1 headphones or 5.1 7.1 speakers with a good soundcard to hear peoples footsteps and figure out in your mind through spatial recognition where someone is coming from cheating to?

Is sonic radar software or is the software linked to a special chip processing sounds cus id of though if it was as simple as software you could get it from somewhere?

Besides like it says when theres a massive battle going on its useless cus theres to much going on and you need to look at the screen more so tip there.... stay together in squads. i play BF4 personally and i use my eyes, ears and the ingame radar to figure out where people are, coupled with fast reaction times and hopefully pinpoint targetting, is a MUST to win any fight so there you go Dont keep moaning cus other people keep on owning!!!

That's not how it works though, fool. Just goes to show you. It relies on IN GAME SOUND. Therefore I'd need to be making sound to show up on the radar. If I'm walking, like in CSGO or something I make no sound, therefore I won't show up on this fancy radar.

Give it up. Any advantage, no matter how slight is cheating. Anyone can buy headphones but does everyone now have to purchase ASUS motherboards to be on a level playing field?

Just waiting until someone ads and aimbot to work with sonic radar.

... doesn't give you any extra information for yr brain to process - just converts sound information into visual information ,,, where is the advantage over a surround sound setup? ...

... at best will be an excellent aid for deaf gamers ...

There's nothing stopping Valve from kicking people who use this software is there?

True.

The question I have for those that say it is ok, should it be allowed in competitive games and tournaments? Also if it does not help why would anyone want something running in the background interacting with the game?

Many sound frequency you will not hear, but this will gonna detect them.

The more older you get, high frenquency is getting impossible to hear. This radar gonna detect any sound frequency, even those you can't hear despite being in the game.

Well no cus have you played BF4's massive maps, it needs a radar of some sort when theres 64 people flying around also with drones in the air giving off positional data to more like a real army and its a 21st century army where this type of tech is in use not like black ops 2 or any other CoD or CS with small maps with small amounts of players that you can hear miles away anyway.

Besides is it really any worse than using macros where with 1 button press you could switch to a pistol and start firing quicker than singularly clicking the mouse button? is that cheating? nope its just using what you have to an advantage. ive got a asus x58 sabertooth and its a good mb id prolly buy asus again when i next upgrade in a few years but having this sonic radar wont make me buy it as i like to think im fairly quick on the trigger and can spot people alright away. also im not competitive and play for fun, if you cant play for fun time to quit really!

A radar isn't needed to play.
And EVEN if it would be needed, it would be inside the game, not only here if you buy X mobo.

The era of the game happen in won't justify the use of Sonic Radar....

The macro comparaison is also a bad thing. As you can use 1 or 2 to change weapon. Which is nearly equaly the same than a quick switch macro.

For the sonic radar. Even the best surround headset or home cinema won't make a visual reproduction of the sound that happen around and nether gonna provide you the direction of a sound that have a frequency you can't hear.
