can i get vac banned for having mw2 mods on my computer but never actully used them

Yes. Any core file modification will result in a VAC ban even if the 'mods' aren't being used - once they're downloaded to your PC; that's it and the waiting game commences. Any tampering of the .exe /.dll /.bat files in COD games is fatal and VAC is absolutely hot on detections with the franchise.

Depends on what was downloaded - many of these files auto-merge and overwrite without the persons knowledge. They also leave hidden traces which the user cannot detect and most malicious mods/cheats can re-install themselves along with with duplicate across files on your PC. The only way to remove such things is by doing a full system wipe/reformat.

mw2 is very strict about mods, if you use basically anything other than editing the cfg file, it will trigger a ban. People have been banned simply for using the fps unlocker and other non hacks on that game. Single player I dont think vac is enabled, but you could always load single player, set steam offline mode, and go to town, just don't login steam until its cleaned up! So short answer - no mods for online or get banned.

You won't ever get banned for just downloading stuff. You can even download a cheat. As long as you don't execute the cheat, you won't get banned.

^ what he said, everyones always like "if it detects it at all on your hard drive" maybe a rootkit anti cheat like battleye or esea is running. But as long as you never open the file and arent dumb and put it in the game or steam folder, no you shouldn't get banned. Though I'm not downloading a public cheat to find out, the ban is nothing, I'm more worried about trojan horse.
