VAC Ban for reasons unknown but i can still open cases??

I haven't had this installed for a good few months then spoken to a friend and thought we'd hop on for it to say that I'm more or less prohibited from going on competitive for reasons i do not know. I'd just paid for cases and keys before this just fine, CS is not the same game as it once used to be. Game is crumbling because of this Valve Anti-Cheat malarkey...

if the account has a game/vac ban, the inventory related to the game is permanently locked to the account and cannot be traded or sold.

I am not seeing a vac ban on the profile. maybe you need to explain what is making you think the account is banned

THAT is a VAC ban.

As stated, you need to explain what is making you think the account is banned.

You don't even have a vac ban, or any other ban at that.

You probably just had a common vac error or a timeout, neither of which are vac bans.
