Is it safe to have a hacker on your friends list?
Will you get banned if you do, or is nothing going to happen?

It's just a friends list.

It's only a VAC ban.

Not a contagious disease! :dealwithit:

You won't get VAC banned

However one is judged by the company one keeps

Choose your "friends" online and offline wisely

There is no way you would get banned or anything having a cheater on your friends list, but if I were you, I'd report whoever is cheating on your list. Cheaters are nothing but a bad influence 99% of the time.

If you can avoid to have a cheater in your friend list, I guess it's always better

Is your friend a real life friend or a steam friend, if he is a real life friend then keep him on your list, but if he is just a random steam friend then time to sack him off....

Well if you got a lot of friends with vac bans, might wanna hide that profile or set it to friends only. But no having a cheater on your friends list won't do any harm to you. Afterall, you didn't cheat. (or at least weren't caught) Besides people get banned for accidently leaving cheat engine open or using weird programs and scripts that probably shouldnt trigger a vac ban. But I guess it depends on what your doing with them.
