I really think online gaming is going to die without effective anticheats
Im noticing a trend where every game that comes out within a few months there are hacks and cheats out for it. Its to the point where people are actually just going to do other things rather than waste their time in games. Its so bad, but developers crap their pants at things like IP permaban, hardware bans etc. Sure there will always be some work arounds but what is the alternative?

The sooner you figure out that you can't stop the cheating completely, you'll be a lot better off. Valve already knows this and so do other devs.

IP permabans = Ban cheater now, *30 seconds later* ,Cheater back playing on new IP and an innocent is now banned.

Good idea, yah? :steamfacepalm:

Hardware bans? Buy another cheap pos laptop off ebay or something, and your back cheating again. Or if your savvy, spoof it and keep using the same machine......

Again, easy to work around for those already circumventing the anticheats and cheating in games within days of launch.

Dev's can only play catch up, otherwise it becomes a legal minefield of them asking for scans of your personal documents and PC ever ytime you want to play a game, or you have to sign up with your personal ID (which again, is a legal minefield about who can access this data etc...)

It's NOT as easy to stop cheaters as you make it out to be.......

How many times are useless threads like this gonna be made?

Or people could just stop being addicted to that dopamine rush and play single player games.

Are you familiar with the term "Infinity"?

I think you need to step back from your pre contextualized viewpoint, I never said it was easy.

Trying to stop cheating in online games is like trying to empty out the ocean with a thimble.
It's a futile effort.

Not even the Grand Canyon is big enough for that task. :P

There’s always cheaters that will evade bans you can’t stop all of them.

Yep.
Can't fight human nature.

You can try, but it's futile.

Be lucky this isn’t last gen ps3 platform. Modders can remove console bans and unban themselves almost entirely.

Your viewpoint is wrong, anyway....

It's a human nature problem, not a cheating problem.

Until you eradicate the human predilection to gain any advantage at any cost, there will always be cheaters, liars and thieves.

Cheating and catching cheaters in any online game is always a game of cat and mouse that never ends.

....and you can change an IP address in seconds. A hardware ID takes a bit longer, but you can still change it. Making both bans 0% effective.

so your saying effectively...look into nothing, do nothing, find peace with it?
Maxwell Boltzman Graph 8 DIC 2024 a las 5:29 p. m.
Its not about the effectiveness overall but how painful it is each time they are caught. Noone seems to have a reasonable functional solution. if all you have to do is create a new account, thats somehting everyone can do. most cheats are not coders, or familiar with hardware at all.

How about making your own anticheat and sell it to Valve instead of sitting on the sidelines….
