can you use cheats in single player in halflife 2 without getting banned?

You wont get banned in single player. You'll be fine as long as they are fully uninstalled before going into multiplayer again

He probably means these console command cheats in HL2 Singleplayer.

Using console commands like sv_cheats 1 and the cheat cvar's themselves is NOT VAC-bannable, but if you use a external/internal program to force sv_cheats to 1 in a Multiplayer game where on the server it's set to 0, YOU WILL BE VAC BANNED.

Use console cheats. They're easier to use than external cheats and are 100% safe because,they come from Valve.

Correct, open up the console and type "sv_cheats 1".

This will allow you to use "developer" commands such as "god", "noclip", or "impulse 101" (grants all equipment)

Note while sv_cheats is active, you won't be able to earn any achievements.
