How to check why I got a ban?
I'm not sure if it's the right place to ask this but I don't really care. I just want to know why I got a VAC ban. I really only play CS:GO and TF2. I've never cheated in any game on Steam but I just want to have a reason why I was punished.

There is no way to know "why" such reports would give away what vac detects, thus making it easier for cheat makers to get around vac. Contact steam support and they will confirm if the ban is legitimate or not. If they do, you are out of options. If they find it to be a false ban (EXTREMELY unlikey, btw) they will reverse it.

Thanks for the reply at least. Do you know what VAC Bans are given for? I'm talking about like are they just for cheating, or could it be because maybe I could have been using an AWP on a no AWP server in CSGO? Or for foul language over text chat? Because I KNOW that I'm not using some kind of cheat engine, or boosting of any kind, and I've only been in idle servers once or twice. I'm just really mad because now I can't play in any good servers anymore.

Check this thread -- http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/9/882959527688934488/

It will explain everything you need to know about VAC.

I checked in my settings and my VAC status says "In good standing" I'm really confused. Also it let me play a non-community server in Counter strike with it.

Archduke, what if I deleted the menu music to CSGO from it's file? Could that be why?
Anarchisteve May 22, 2014 @ 1:46pm
I would be very surprised if deleting music files could result in a VAC ban
. All you can really do now is wait for the response from support.

You or someone with access to your account used cheats. It's as simple as that.
VAC only bans for cheats, therefore cheats were detected while you were connected to a VAC secure server.

You cheated, you got caught - get over it.

I didn't do anything. I made that clear. I don't idle, I don't scam, I don't boost, literally I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pissed because of this. I'm probably just going to have to make a new account.

The ONLY thing I can think of that I've done is take out that music file in CS:GO. And I changed a hitsound in TF2.
Mis-Teeq May 22, 2014 @ 6:33pm
Sorry, you're wrong. All of VACs mistakes are VERY public. And they haven't issued any alerts about false bans. So you or someone with access did indeed cheat.

Go ahead an email steam support. They'll confirm you cheated and then you can stop this nonsense.

changing music or hit sounds wont affect a vac ban because you didnt modify the launcher dll or executable.
VAC is automated and only looks for very specific things. If it finds them, it issues a ban sometime in the future (VAC bans are delayed from the time they are detected.) If it doesn't, no action is taken. While no system is ever 100% accurate, it is very very unlikely that VAC could ban anyone for "no reason." VAC does not care how old your account is, what is on it, how much you have spent on it, what your machine is, how good you are at whatever games you play, what others say about you in user reports, or who is on the account at the time of the cheat detection. It bans by account, not by individual, and bans are per game in most cases.

Therefore it is possible to get your computer infected with a keylogger or trojan and become compromised, and get a VAC ban in that manner due to the hijacker's cheating, or because a friend or family member used your account on their own infected or cheat-enabled machine if you divulged your account details to anyone, or via family sharing if the individual you share a game with cheats in that game, or because you got hijacked in any number of trade scams involving logging into fake Steam sites, uploading files from your machine or installing things on it, or because you downloaded something you thought was safe from a shady source which had cheats hidden within it (skin packs, game mods, "fov changers" and the like), or because you logged onto your account on an infected internet cafe machine or left it logged in for someone else to abuse.

Even though the above examples do not directly involve you cheating, the account would be caught cheating and therefore a ban would be applied. VAC bans are permanent no matter who caused them. Valve does not divulge or publish information about what specifically triggered the ban, this is by design to stall the development of new and better cheats.

I've got 20 custom sounds for CS:GO, 30 custom sounds for TF2 and maybe 60 custom sounds for L4D2.

VAC DOES NOT ban you for sounds. Some servers have SV_pure1 that blocks your new sounds in that server OR they kick you telling that you've got custom sound.

VAC ONLY BANS for cheating.

Thank you for this reply. I do download a whole lot of addons for Garry's Mod and Left 4 Dead 2. It must have been something there. I'm just going to have to make a new account I suppose.

have you even tried steam support? I mean if you honestly didn't cheat then you should get unbanned by steam support, otherwise you're just wasting everyones time. the fact that you still seem to not have contacted steam support doesn't exactly make you look innocent.
