I got VAC banned from all Source games for "cheating" in singleplayer. What do I do?

One time, about a year ago, I opened up Cheat Engine because I wanted to mess around with TF2 using it (in singleplayer, of course). I ended up just changing a few numbers, not understanding what I was doing, and giving up shortly after.

A few days later, I had a permanent VAC ban placed on my account, and can no longer play TF2, HL2DM, CS:S, or any other multiplayer Source game. I can't even play TF2 in practice mode with bots, since even the singleplayer servers the game starts are in "secure" mode.

I read the help article from Valve, and it seems like there's very little I can do about this. IMO, no automated system should be allowed to put permanent, global, non-appealable bans on peoples' accounts, but I guess that's just how Valve felt like handling this.

Is there anything I could do at this point? I can't afford to get another copy of TF2 (or Valve's entire Source Engine library for that matter, since I'm banned from all of those games as well apparently), and even then, I would still like to keep all of the progress I've made on my account.

You used cheats and it's the system's fault. lol

All servers are VAC enabled by default, even private matches against bots.

You'll need a new account to buy and play these games again.

Statistics show that 99.999999999999% of cheaters who "just cheated on singleplayer" will also:
1. cheat in multiplayer
-Or-
2. Lie about cheating in multiplayer

Why you chose to use Cheat Engine when you could have just as easily used console commands to do the same thing is between you and your higher power. How to use console commands even shows up way before cheat engine does on google.

VAC is used because it is efficient and it is mostly accurate. Also it is incapable of being bogged down with the usual "I only cheated singleplayer" or "my little brother cheated while I was in the shower" lies that people for some reason want to tell to get out of trouble.

You should have thought about that before cheating.

TF2 is free now so I don't see how you can't afford that one. As for the rest of the Source engine games you could wait for a sale I suppose.

Simple answer, stop using free cheats, also cheating is very wrong.
