Can unofficial mods ban me from Left 4 Dead 2?

background: just got a quest 2 and a link cable, and i am hungry for pcvr exclusives. i've heard there is a mod for Left 4 Dead 2 that allows you to play the full game in vr, uncompromised. however, i've also heard that the mod in question can result in a VAC ban, and since l4d is a game that really kind of needs online to function, i'm slightly scared. is this true, and if so is there anything i can do to protect myself/get unbanned?

Everything that tampers with the game code in any way, shape or form outside of what Steam Workshop allows you to do can result in a VAC ban if you play on secured servers.

To disable VAC and play on insecure servers, you need to start the game with the -insecure command line parameter inside the game's properties (launch options).

Use caution when installing any game modifications like scripts or custom skins, and only download custom content from trusted sources. Hackers may maliciously disguise their cheats to cause others to get banned.

Once the account is banned, that's it. There are no second chances.

VAC bans are permanent, non-negotiable, and cannot be removed by Steam Support.
