The Strange Case of Modern Warfare 2 and VAC Bans

Hello Community,

I've had Modern Warfare 2 (2009) for nine years and recently played it for 16 hours to bring back some memories. Over the last couple of months, something very strange has been happening in MW2 online. There are articles about it, stating that some kind of virus can be deployed on your PC if you play online. I know it sounds strange, but you can search about it.

Anyway, I tried to install antivirus software and virus removal tools and attempted to play the game with some fake virus removal tools I downloaded. As a result, I got an instant VAC ban. It's been a year since this happened, and I still don't know exactly what went wrong. I know there's no going back, but what can I say? VAC is a big failure.

Vac bans are issued for known cheats being detected on the computer while the account was connected to a vac server. VAC bans are delayed, what the account was doing at the time the ban was activated is unlikely to have anything to do with the ban.

Anything that tampers with protected game files is treated as a cheat regardless of it giving an advantage or not (skin changers, etc). Steam/Valve will not release any information about what was detected, that information will only help those that cheat and make cheats.

You are responsible for the security of the account and what is on the computer(s) the account uses. It does not matter who was using the account to cheat.

No one on the forums can remove nor investigate a ban. Only falsely applied VAC bans are removed automatically by the system at a later time.

This is not a ban appeal forum. You cannot appeal a VAC ban. Nothing you post is going to get the ban removed. There is an INFO link on your profile, click it and read what it tells you.

Can you tell me what program or software caused my VAC ban?
No. We do not disclose the cheats that were detected while connected to a VAC-secured server that resulted in a VAC ban. Again, viruses do not cause bans, their goal is to wreak havoc in computers and not some kind like a dark figure standing in an alley waiting to rob personal belongings.

The cause for your ban is done by a person sending malware that's classified as cheating into your PC -- look up RCE. I'm not wondering because Activision is too lazy at fixing serious issues.

You are responsible for your account and all actions on it. That means you haven't search for other related threads before yours.

It's not like they didn't give cheaters a chance. VAC Bans use to be temporary but people kept cheating. So they were like "You ruined it. VAC Bans are now permanent."
