a correctly applied vac ban is PERMANENT, no appeals
A VAC ban is only removed if the detection of a cheat was an actual mistake.
Such false positive bans are usually removed within the first few days or weeks after the ban.
they are banned for life. only cheaters have spread the false rumor that appeals process happens, and a lot of others also contribute to misinformation.
a lot of cheaters panic when they get banned and for some reason they associate the acronym VAC with BAN, so you get the flood of complaints here. reading comprehension lol.
unbans do not happen.
the vac system undergoes review, and is confirmed for accuracy before it stays permanent. i believe this process is done before the player is even first aware the account is flagged for cheating.
I believe a large portion of the 'i was banned for nothing' threads are cheaters who forgot they cheated weeks prior (brain of a goldfish, unsurprising), or have grown so accustomed to cheating they don't think it's possible to be caught anymore, and then get surprisedpikachu when their cheat is detected and everyone in their community gets wiped out.
the delay in a ban is a wise tactic. although it takes longer to hit and show a result, it ends up catching the critical mass of cheaters in one shot. you catch so many more fish if you leave the net in the water longer. to boot, cheat makers can't zero in on when the anti cheat received an update, so they're unable to adapt the cheats.
i think a more elegant solution exists, but i'm interested to see what valve has planned for the engine update / new version overhaul for counterstrike.
as a sidenote, its easy to review the xml document on a player's community profile. even if a profile is set to private, the current VAC status is always public, one should not have any doubts about you.
-regards.
So far a permanent ban has shown to be the only kinda efficient method.
Then make a new account, problem solved. Problem is: maybe you also go: "Hmm, my Ban is gone, time to cheat again!", which is what people did. Which is why VAC Bans are permanent.
man imagine ppl would trade accts by the age of the vac ban if ppl rly did do that. it would be similar to trading bonds lol that would be a pretty interested underground market.
