Question about 60% Keyboard and VAC System (not macros)
Hello again,

I asked in the forums one thing related to the keyboards and their software because I'm worried, I've been told to ask in certain game's forum, so, I prefer to ask in the Steam main's anti-cheat forum.

The thing is that I bought a custom 60% keyboard, which doesn't have the F keys and the commands/media keys (like prnt, avg, the arrows, etc...). This keyboard has a software that allows you to change the binding of some keys to create shortcuts to cast the keys that are not in the keyboard: for example, you can make that the FN key + 1 would cast F1, or FN + backspace would cast the del key. Can I be VAC-banned for this? The software would only affect the firmware of the keyboard and will not run in background or anything like that and the OS will only detect the input that has been cast.

I want to be sure that I will not be in problems for this.

Have a good night!

Edit: the sofware is "Use VIA" and it is used for all GMK keyboards.

Re-binding keys does not cause a VAC ban.

Yeah, I thought that because it is the same input for Windows and it is not done from the drivers, but I want to be really sure. You know what the saying "better safe than sorry" haha.
VAC detects cheats, re-binding keys isn't cheating.

Then there's no problem with the software either? Since it is a command where two keys are casted together to bind another one... I thought that could be considered as a macro or something.

Using macros _could_ result in a game ban, but not a VAC ban.

In theory they're NOT macros, just mapping, because the OS detects the input as a normal key, but I don't know... Hmm... I think I should not use the keyboard then...

No. Most "gaming" keyboards have programs/the ability to rebind keys, record macros etc.

Yeah, but in some online games you cannot do macros (thing that I understand), and this is not supposed to be one, but I'm worried about the possibility that could be considered a macro.

You don't need to worry about "could be considered a macro"
Marco or mapping.., almost same f-ing thing
, both can be used for cheating purposes and likely result in game ban(if caught).

But VAC doesn't ban you for "mapping/marco/rebind".

(It certainly has the ability to detect if you're using a macro related software or not, It just chooses not to process that information)

Should I stop using the keyboard then? I only mapped de F keys and the arrow keys. Usually I don't use them on games, but I don't want to be banned for that (In general, not only for VAC).

Edit: the software just updates the firmware, so, it is not running, the keyboard loads the settings by itself.

Yes its reasonably safe. chance you get banned for macro keyboard is almost zero imo.
