A question
Hello fellow Steam users!

So my question is if you can get VAC Banned for using a Crosshair overlay. I used it multiple times in order to get a crosshair while not in scope with the SSG 08 and AWP in the game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

I would appreciate every answer i can get.

Thanks in advance,
Dashy

Skadi, this isn't CS:GO and Rust uses a completely different engine (Unity).

you referenced CSGO and nothing else until this post.

Any overlay of the same nature will likely get the account banned in Rust as well.

Anyways, thanks for the answer. I pray that i don't get banned for this now. Well, my friend was right. I will stop using the overlay from now on.

EDIT: Seems like you are misunderstanding me, i never got banned in CS:GO.

But you could be, is the point. External overlays are likely not allowed in any capacity. But it depends on what kind you used, so YMMV.

But that was exactly my question. Is this bannable or not?

I just find it a little bit odd that Valve doesn't have a post about what counts as a cheat and what not, this is just inexcusable...

Use only trusted machines to play on VAC-Secured servers - if you are not sure whether or not the machine you are using to connect to Steam may have cheats installed, do not play on VAC-Secured servers.

Use caution when installing any game modifications, such as scripts or custom skins. Only download custom content from trusted sources. Hackers sometimes maliciously disguise their cheats to cause others to get banned.

That's enough for you to know, if they started listing every cheat they ban then there would be no point in VAC, would there? Simply don't use it if you are not sure.

Finally a answer that actually helped, thank you gwait!

I saw a thread last week of someone who got banned using a customized crosshair in CS:GO, so, yes, it's a bannable offense. (Source, not in English)

No, if you do a little research Valve gives you enough information to be 99% sure if it is ok or not. Seeing you are already game banned once, don't be surprised to find any new bans on your account due to "crosshair overlay" or whatever it is

Step 1: get a ruler, and a dry erase marker, preferably orange or red, something highly visible.
Step 2: Measure your monitor and determine the exact center point.
Step 3: Mark a dot, or whatever kind of "crosshair" you prefer at that point.
Step 4: Congratulate yourself on your ingenuity.

Here you go. Look, it's the exact same post about crosshair bans...but for Rust. Oh dat google.

https://www.reddit.com/r/playrust/comments/1uvsx3/psa_dont_use_crosshair_overlaysvac_ban/

The forum moderators here aren't also Rust developers. They're not going to give you a helpful list of files to not "modify" so you don't get banned in a specific game.

If It's VAC protected...then it's generally a good idea, not to attempt to alter the game files while playing in VAC protected servers. (also EAC protected servers)

And you can also ask yourself a simple question. Is what I'm doing giving me an advantage? If so, then it's probably a cheat.

Whatever tinkering you do, is at your own risk.

use an external crosshair. Not bannable as it just overlays transparent image in centre of screen and requires game to be in window mode as having an image overlayed in a full screen game would need to hook onto the game which could cause ban
