And no, Fraps does not cause VAC bans.
I have used Fraps while playing VAC secured games. If somehow Fraps suddenly caused VAC bans and you got banned, you would miraculously be the first Fraps/Steam user to be VAC banned for it, since tons of youtubers and other video makers use Fraps.
I am a dev, and I am working on a game in GameMaker:Studio from yoyo games and I would like to distribute it.
SpaceWar is used to test steam features and is used for development purposes.
If you think I use it for hacking, you are terribly mistaken. But it brings up a question.
How do you know it is used for hacking? And why did you mention hacking as the first thing when you saw space war? Someone is not as clean as he is claiming.
The guy interjecting with the pointless comment, does in fact have an alt account with multiple bans.
At any rate, Fraps will not cause any known conflicts with VAC. It might slow down your FPS though, depending on how beefy your system is. There are options you can configure in Fraps to minimize this.
That is because the game I am working on is currently in alpha stages and is not in the steam store nor in the greenlight section. I do not have the badge because I do not need it so far. Its release could be a subject to change and it might no hit steam, so paying for a developer license would be a waste of money.
The reason why I was asking about the VAC thing is because of the game itself. I would like to implement it, but I want to be 100% sure that it will not restrict people from using external recording applications that use hook overlays.
SpaceWar can be run with a simple steam command.
Valve does not restrict the usage of recording software. In fact, they explicitly allow it, including the monetization of that recorded content on YouTube.
Of course, they can allow it only for their own games, still won't cause a ban in any other game that is protected by VAC.
