Mistakenly left cheat engine open in the background from another game
I was playing a game that isn't vac-enabled using a trainer for speed-runs (as in trying to complete the game in a short span of time under different conditions) and I forgot to close cheat engine, not thinking much of it. OK. So I opened CS:GO in which I have over 2100 hours on and never cheated on before to play some competitive with a friend. I get in game, play for a minute and BAM, kicks me out saying there's a VAC authentication error. SO, ok! MY BAD. I look at the page it sends me saying how to fix it. SO I closed cheat engine, tried opening up the game, reconnect and BAM, same message. SO I restart my PC after closing CS and steam, load up and try again, same message, so now at this point I gave up on trying to get back in the game since too much time has passed to get in before cooldown timer starts. OK, so I proceed to do all 3 different methods that steam provides as a solution to not get the authentication error. I finish the steps, then restart my PC and what do you know? YOU HAVE BEEN VAC BANNED. Now this wouldn't make me mad if I could just talk to somebody and get it fixed, but now my few CS:GO skins, progress and interactability are all revoked and void and I can't talk to anybody through Steam Support to get it sorted out. Now I have to rely on the system to MAYBE unban me through Steam's algorithm, in which I am not sure if I trust to unban me. SO in this situation, what do I do and if there is nothing that I can do, should I expect Steam's algorithm to function the way it is meant to an unban me from this mishap? The way I see it, the VAC system is fraudulent if you can get banned without justification and are revoked the right to refute it. I didn't come here to complain about the system, I came here for advice, ease of mind and/or confirmation in my beliefs that this is just an effort for Steam to make more money off of the service they provide than they already do through a seemingly fraudulent system to revoke the service that they provide that you have already paid for. Please let me know what you think, and if Steam's unbanning algorithm works, how long does this process take naturally from anybody's experience? I look forward to any sincere response. PS. Cheat engine was not enabled to influence CS:GO as an application, it was just idling after closing the game I previously mentioned, so imposing an actual influence on game files/properties couldn't have been justified by simply having the application open. I'd figure if Steam and Valve acknowledge cheat engine as a vac-infringing software on their how to fix the vac error page, then it only makes sense that they make concessions for bans in relation to it? At this rate I'm ranting but rightly so, Steam's negligence in this circumstance is inexcusable, considering the subject in question involves borderline fraud. Again and for the last time, please leave a sincere response.

Chest engine alone causes vac errors .
It has to be attached to the game to cause a ban.

Also as vac bans are normally delayed what caused the ban could have from something days weeks or months ago

Try again, Wayne.

Leaving it open causes a VAC error. Using it to cheat on a VAC enabled game, in a VAC secured server causes a VAC ban.

Before today, I have not played CS:GO in roughly 50 days. Also I like your statement, but I don't know how educated it is considering I did not have Cheat Engine influencing CS:GO. If it wasn't clear, after the first error I did NOT have cheat engine open at all because I've restarted my PC. With only Steam and CS:GO opened I encountered the same message. Please don't question my integrity, that's not why I'm making this thread and you haven't answered my primary question. Will the Steam algorithm fix this issue?

Like I clarified, I have not attached cheat engine to CS:GO, it was idling in the background from a previous game. After the first error, I CLOSED cheat engine and proceeded to get the same error after trying to reconnect. If you read everything I wrote and didn't instantly doubt my integrity then instead of being derogatory you'd give me the genuine response I'm looking for (assuming you actually have experience) is what can I do (assuming I'm not guilty which I'm not) and if I can't do anything, what can I expect? (assuming I'm telling the truth). You can doubt me all you want, but assuming I'm being honest (which I am), please be fruitful and share your thought on it.

Again, the ban is permanent. You can write wall after wall of text and it will not change a thing.

As Steam's page says (and I quote) "If a VAC ban is determined to have been issued incorrectly, it will automatically be removed." This is the variable in question that hasn't been answered. It clarifies in this statement by Steam that a ban that is placed CAN be unplaced but only by the algorithm that they use for bans. SO, please respond accordingly or exit the discussion, thank you <3

I understand that waiting is practically my only option, but I am asking here to get insight from people that may have been in the same boat.
If you have nothing to offer, then don't try to offer anything.

Cheat Engine does not cause VAC bans, unless it is actively attached to a game in a VAC secured server. This has already been pointed out by several people.

If you genuinely did not use cheat engine to actively attach and cheat in a VAC secured server, then there is one simple conclusion - Cheat Engine did not cause your VAC ban. This leads on to the next conclusion - your VAC ban was caused by some other known cheat being detected on a computer used by your account.

OK, I understand. Thing is, I played two competitive games a couple of hours before this happened, at that moment I haven't had any errors and cheat enfgine was NOT open. Also including the fact that I haven't played the game in around 50 days. So it would have to be extreme cooincidence that this error appeared after playing the other game and leaving cheat engine open. It seems pretty obvious that if it was a VAC ban related to something in the past it would've hit me right away after starting the game, or would've happen over the period of time that I have not played CS:GO. It was only after this presumably cheat-engine related "infringement" that I proceeded to get the error twice more after trying solutions (obviously starting with cheat engine being closed and steam being restarted) And I have a hard time believing that the ban is unrelated to those ONLY errors that I've gotten. I know that this is an extremely odd way to get banned, trust me, I'm just as surprised as you don't believe in my transparency. SO far everything that is being stated doesn't align with what happened and so far it brings the question if cheat engine was even the problem, and if not then the cause is contradicted by the fact that the last time I played was 50 days ago and I have NOT cheated ever in the 2138 hours that I have played the game. This whole thing is frustrating me. Don't get me wrong, I am not that mad about not being able to play the game, I'm more angry about the circumstances. Again, the lack of resolution and justification of these bans are inherently fraudulent regardless of how much faith that you have in the algorithm.

The fact you hadn't played in 50 days is irrelevant. VAC bans are delayed, by days, weeks, or even months. The ban could have been given for something that was detected before 50 days ago.

With regards to justification, Valve have all the evidence they require to justify your ban. They do not share that evidence to prevent giving cheat developers an easy means to improve their cheats.

If you genuinely believe your ban is "fraudulent", please feel free to initiate court proceedings, and see how long it takes for your case to be thrown out.

If you would read, instead of writing walls of text that dont mean anything.

I wasn't using my account when I received a VAC ban. Can it be removed?
No. Regardless of who was using the account at the time, VAC bans are permanent and will not be removed.

While we understand this can be frustrating, we must maintain a zero tolerance policy for cheating to foster a fair game that all players will enjoy.

How can I find out what I was VAC banned for?
We do not disclose the cheats that were detected while connected to a VAC secured server that resulted in a VAC ban.

We have detailed records for each VAC ban, however, releasing this information would only benefit cheat developers. The VAC team regularly investigates claims of false VAC bans to increase the effectiveness of Valve Anti-Cheat.
