Can I Get Banned For a Bitcoin Miner?

I recently installed NiceHash Miner to start mining crypto but then I looked up on google and found 2 year old discussion about a guy saying he got banned for having a miner (also Nice Hash Miner). Sure, he could be lying and stuff but I got worried since I have a fancy inventory. My question is - Can I Get Banned For having a Bitcoin Miner on my PC?

Does it interact with the game files? No so it should be safe. You likely saw a comment of someone trying to use that as an excuse in hopes of getting unbanned. No different to the usual excuses like having cheat engine open for another game or whatever else cheaters try to use a s a defence.

People have used every excuse from Microsoft Word to their anti-virus for getting banned. It's not a surprise someone would use the miner excuse. In theory it shouldn't lead to a ban but we don't really know how how it impacts the processes and if VAC would detect something suspicious. Cheats are often disguised to protect themselves so it's possible something like this could get flagged but I'd say they should be safe and anti-cheats probably account for these by now.

If the program does not interfere with your game files and processes in any way, then you should be fine.

However, without knowing exactly how the bitcoin miner operates, and whether it could potentially interfere with other processes operating at the same time, then nobody will be able to give you a definitive answer.
