Family Sharing VAC Question
Let's say I only have 1 game on my account, and it's a non-VAC single player game -- if I shared this account with a family member who cheats in a game that IS VAC secured, does my account get VAC banned as well, even though I do not own the game they are cheating on?

Alternatively, can the library sharing host be VAC banned for a game they do not own?

Your account will get a VAC ban for that game, even if your account doesn't own it and you cannot gift or purchase that game.
Read the OP's post again.

Phone numbers work the same way:

How do VAC bans relate to phone numbers?
VAC bans are applied to all accounts sharing a phone number at the time of the infraction. For this (and many other) reasons we do not recommend sharing your phone number or using another user's phone number on your Steam account. Accounts sharing the phone number that do not own the game the VAC ban is for will still receive a VAC ban and will not be able to purchase the game moving forward.

There are no restrictions placed on phone numbers that were on an account when the account was VAC banned; phone numbers can immediately be used on new accounts.

Note: This feature is not enabled for all games and is used at the discretion of the developer.

Again, not reading...I said Family Sharing works the SAME WAY as phone number sharing.
Oh?

Will I be punished for any cheating or fraud conducted by other users while playing my games?
Your Family Library Sharing privileges may be revoked and your account may also be VAC banned if your library is used by others to conduct cheating or fraud. Additionally, VAC-banned games cannot be shared. We recommend you only authorize familiar computers you know to be secure. And as always, never give your password to anyone.

AGAIN, they work the same way. What you choose to believe is irrelevant.

"...if YOUR library is used by others to conduct cheating..."

If MY LIBRARY only has one game in it that doesn't use VAC then MY LIBRARY can in no way be used by others to cheat and get banned. Which was the whole question in the first place.
Simple solution, share your library with your little brother. Have him cheat in a vac secured game that you don't own. You'll either be proven correct or wrong after a few weeks.

Thank you, guys, for the response. It just doesn't seem worth it to share.

Well that's great info, but the OP was asking about family sharing.
If they even mentioned phone number sharing I can see you reason to post what you did.

Oh and speaking of family sharing and vac bans:

When the Steam Link has flickering:
Black flickering usually means that the HDMI cable is faulty and can't get a good signal to the display

see? nothing to do with OP.

My brother and I share with family share, If I cheat on a game he doesn't even own; he won't get banned because I'm playing from my account only. (see how I never mentioned phone numbers?)

Reading comprehension much? If something works the same way as something else, the rules/punishments for one applies to the other.
