Cheating with -insecure option
I was curious about hvh servers and I had heard that you can disable VAC by using the -insecure option. I joined the game on my account with free cheats I downloaded with this option enabled (and verified it was enabled because the message showed up) and someone told me I could still be banned, even when using this option.

Is this true? It says for the description of this option that it "disables Valve Anti Cheat", and so my thinking is that it shouldn't ban me for having this option as well as joining an insecure server.

I looked it up in multiple places, but couldn't get a straight answer.

the issue is you have cheats installed, and that means if you ever join a secured server without reformating the computer / reseting the computer to factory new, your account will be at risk of a vac ban. vac does not require you to be actively using a cheat to earn a ban, it only has to detect the cheat while the account is connected to a vac server

it is best to avoid installing cheats, you never know what kind of malware is included with the free cheat

So I haven't loaded up the game with the cheats without -insecure option. I never attempted to join a secured server with the cheats enabled. I only stayed at the home screen and the server browser to find a VAC insecure hvh server. The cheat was not one that modifed game files, it was one that was injected.

I haven't tried booting up the game since, but I feel as though all traces are gone. I have also rebooted since doing that.

Why I feel like your gonna regret what you did very soon.

make sure you read the PINNED thread at the top of the forum. and should your account get a vac ban or get hijacked, just remember that you are the one that made it possible.

Well that's what I'm wondering: is it possible to get banned using -insecure?

Everything can happen. Like Wolf Knight said, If you got vac banned, you are the one who made it possible.
I just don't understand why people risk their account to cheat like that.

I'm not looking for assumptions or "everything can happen". Please stay on topic to what the thread is asking.

Theoretically, not.
but you said you inject "FREE CHEATS".
Most of the free cheats still there even when you think "all traces are gone". and they may gonna be there when you boot the game with vac protection without knowing that. they free for a reason.

That's true. I could be at risk from some lingering things staying around; but that doesn't worry me. The files have 100% been deleted and the memory has been cleared (reboot).

I'm only worried about the part where I loaded up the game with the cheat active and -insecure was enabled. I heard information that I could still be banned by VAC even if I disabled it in the launch options.

Ok, here's a fact....you're not allowed to cheat AT ALL, as per this agreement, that every Steam user agrees to, the instant a Steam account is created:

https://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/#4
Secondly, do you really want to chance getting a VAC ban on a account with 1,200 games?...lol.

Stop messing with cheats. You'll thank me later.

Deleting cheats does not remove them....reformat.

I'm 100% positive the cheats are removed. It's not the cheats you're thinking of.

Secondly, you replied to the comment I made saying to stay on topic with something that wasn't on topic to the thread. I'm asking about the -insecure option used by CS:GO for for disabling VAC. This has legitimate uses by mappers who need to do things that VAC would otherwise disagree with. I can even say that I wasn't cheating, that I was doing something like that, and just triggered something that VAC would disagree with. The actual action that happened is irrelevant.

This is a forum for VAC discussion, I felt as though there should have been some answers to something dealing with the VAC system.

A bit of a personal opinion, but I would also argue that hacker versus hacker servers are a modification to the game that spawned a new gamemode, just like how Counter-Strike and DOTA were born in the past. It seemed like an experience to try, as I have a lot of hours of playing the normal game. I don't believe "using cheats" on a server that is made for the game mode is really "gaining an unfair advantage" as Valve puts it in their user agreement.

You're not using as a mapper, though. You're cheating.

The SSA disagrees with you. You're not allowed to cheat, period.

It is for VAC discussion and I'm telling you that what you're doing is a violation of the SSA, that you agreed to.

You're looking for someone to tell you that it is ok to cheat, no one here is going to do that.

Flawed logic, It's cheating.

What will your excuse be when that happens to you?

Answer: No excuse works here.
