Could I get a ban for having Wireshark installed on my PC?

I'm a Networking student, and thus have to have wireshark installed for labs and other class work. What I am wondering, is if I could get a vac ban for having it on my computer/having it running? I figure it is better to ask before I go and play anything with it on my computer

Why would a program like that interfere with Vac-enabled games? Vac detects KNOWN CHEATS only.

At most, you might get an authentication error. If it isn't an inserted piece of code going into the game files or dlls, it's not a 'cheat'.

VAC detects known cheats running while connected to vac secured server.
as long "wireshark" is not a cheat, it should be fine.

Totally impossible. I used network scanners a lot when tried to force VAC protected games to work with Wine (that was a many years ago, when they were incompatible).
